AHC: Nintendo outright loses the console wars like SEGA in 1990s?

Sorry if this sounds too ASB-ish but would SEGA Win the console war with Sony and SEGA Teaming up after Nintendo rubs Sony too much in the face (SEGA PlayStation?)
Would a "SEGA PlayStation" been possible?
Your challenge for Sega to win the console war alongside Sony against Nintendo also Make Nintendo of America have a civil war with Nintendo of Japan like SEGA of America did with SEGA of Japan, Etc.

We already have a sega playstation here https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/the-sega-generation.439579/... but unlike SEGA, Nintendo was far better managed and more conservative to bankrupt like sega do OTL, at worst they would be a niche and mostly portable first company

Right... How is it possible for Nintendo to lose the console war like SEGA did in 1990s if possible?
You need a far different Company to get that Point, all of Nintendo moves were always from Yamauchi to down, unlike SEGA that all three got autonomy(the reason we have a sega was thanks to Kalinske Genius in America and good managment in europe) but that provoke internal infight, the reason for a collapse was far different as you will need yamauchi far earlier but even Arakawa, Lincoln and Co were far more organized that OTL Sega infamous mess(read the TL, i worked with the author show that was a real issue)

Have poorer quality games? Nintendo produced fewer games than Sony PlayStation due to their focus on in-house development. But because the games were of such high quality it resulted in solid sales and critical acclaim.

So maybe have Shigeru Miyamoto meet an untimely demise preventing the development of Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time under his direction?

Yeah... and do we need a POD to make such event happen?

Offing miyamoto won't be enough by a long shot. Nintendo still has a culture of quality within the company and as influencial as he was miyamoto wasn't responsible for that by himself.

As an aside I really do dislike threads that simply want a very specific thing to happen and then basically gives no input whatsoever. At the very least try to come up with a somewhat plausible POD first. You get the impression that its purely personal wish fulfillment wank.

Yeah, it's a tall order but that was the best I could think of with a POD restricted to the early 90s.

You'd need Nintendo to back the worst horse in the race to really get them to lose. Like, maybe if they went full force into the Philips deal or went with an Atari or Bandai project?
