It's more "racists think that because Black Americans often don't use 'proper English', it makes them unintelligent, when in reality AAVE is a form of speech as sophisticated as any other and shouldn't be slandered by insinuating it's 'improper'."

Meant as a joke, I am aware racists think of variant forms of the English language as signs of incapacity.

That is an amazing concept!
I'm only critical because after reading Kaldelis, I'm unconvinced that the Romaion would ever adopt the western socialist views. They are republicans through and through. They would look back to the rule of the consuls as not being of the common good, thus evil. An emperor, as dull as that is, will stay. They'd already have most of socialistic rhetoric in line with millenia old Roman views. They'd scoff at the atheism and irrelgion of Marx, and naturally any philosophy conceived by Frangoi is inferior to the age old wisdom of the millennia of writers.

But nonetheless. Very cool. Go Soviet Romania!

I agree, the Byzantine Republic by Kaldellis is quite a good read, I’m currently making my way through Streams of Gold Rivers of Blood myself. The strength of faith in the Politeia would reject irreligious and I think a toppling of the Monarchy a lá the Romanovs isn’t really possible in then Empire considering their strong tradition of simply toppling a ruler but not the structure. Any discontent would rally behind an opposition to the Emperor but not to the system itself. In any case it was more an interesting thought experiment than any plausible and fleshed out scenario.

I’ll look forward to a thread on this scenario with interest!

Not really sure why you're doing this. I was just providing feedback, you don't need to take it if you don't want. Have I done something to offend you?
