I remember nothing about this one, but the file name was "Second Roman Empire," so I think I meant it to be for an Axis victory where the Italians did a lot better.

I would say that, here, people saw communism as a greater threat than fascism. Maybe somebody a bit saner than Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany early on (e.g. after the Elser assassination succeeded) - somebody more like Kurt Schuschnigg or Benito Mussolini. And then, communism became the greater threat. Stalin maybe started WWII, allied with a red France(?), and then the US, UK, fascist Germany, Mussolini's Italy, and maybe a right-wing Finland fought WWII against the Sovieto-French communist bloc. And this turned into a massive, really massive über of Italy under the motto of "Viva il Duce! Viva Roma!"

Basically the entire state of California is ISOT to a Virgin Earth where (due to ASB survival of it's water supply not running out) it survives ending up the master of the world.

Colors

Bright Orange - Californian states
Dark Orange- Californian territories
Light Orange - Settler colonies, basically they are people from California who are rebuilding their former nation to what it once was before ISOT. Basically once that is complete they basically will end up becoming independent nations again. (Basically California is helping people create more nations)

Notes

Star - Represents the capital of the Greater Californian Republic, San Francisco which itself is a metropolis containing 1 billion people

1. State of Coastal California

2. State of Central California
3. State of Southern California, often refered to as "SoCal" by many, it's two mega-cities are Greater Los Angeles and Greater San Diego
4. State of Baja California, was annexed by California in 2024 and La Paz itself was built again by Caucasian and Latino Californians. As of 2600, the city itself has a population of 5 million residents
5. State of Jefferson, was made stated in 2029 due to many of the hippies, cannabis lovers, conservatives, and environmentalists. Even as of 2600, much of the state is still forest since mainly most residents live among the coast
6. State of Pacheco, became a state in 2045 and was named in honor of California's 12th governor, Romualdo Pacheco who was the first Mexican California to be elected governor in 1875. The state itself is populated mainly by Latinos and Caucasians who happen to often intermarry one another, there are also a couple of Asians residing in the state too.
7. State of Sonora, mainly was named after the former Mexican state of Sonora. When it became a state it had
mostly a population of Latinos, by overtime many Caucasians began moving into the state making it more diverse. Much of the state itself is now terraformed farmland due to the advancement of technology that converts desert into fertile land.
8. State of Flagstaff, what used to be once Arizona basically became a place for liberal and progressive Californians to settle.
9. State of Booth, named after California's 11th governor, Newton Booth. The state capital itself is New Las Vegas, which was rebuilt. Booth itself is mostly a state widely known for gambling, but recently it is getting more known for it's production of porngraphy oddly enough.
10. State of Sierra Nevada, capital of it is the city of New Reno which consists of 2 million people. Sierra Nevada is mostly a state where usually liberals and conservatives mix in. New Reno itself is very liberal while the rest of the state, being now terraformed farmland is widely conservative or moderate.
11. State of Brown, named after Governor Jerry Brown, and even the state capital is named Brownford in his honor.
12. State of Schwarzenegger, named after governor/actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the capital of the state is named Arnie in his honor, and funny enough the state's motto is even "I'll Be Back" which of course is from one of his many famous quotes while an actor in Hollywood. However as of 2600 AD, not many people know much about him except being known to playing as a cyborg in a 1980's Hollywood film as well as being governor.
13. State of Pacifica, mostly inhabited by progressives and cannabis lovers. It very liberal than even the people that live in Greater Los Angeles, especially when it comes to robot and A.I. civil rights.
14. State of Cascadia, somewhat like it's south neighbor Pacifica, but only difference is most people in this state are either liberal or moderate when it comes to politics. Not to mention the fact it also considered the birthplace of Californian Environmentalism. The state itself is very beautiful and many people from SoCal often during summer vacation tend to visit here on vacation.
15. State of Markham, named after the 18th governor of California, Henry Markham. Most people here are usually spiritualist but do not follow by any single religion, most people living here just believe in a "God" and that's about it, and it not even a religious state either since it is very progressive just like it's neighbor down south.
16. State of Fremont, usually conservative on the center-right of the political spectrum. Somewhat religious but has no problems with homosexuality or same-sex marriage in matter of fact many people who are conservative here even don't see anything wrong with it. When it comes to religion most of the inhabitants are mostly Protestant but there is a small minority of Roman Catholics in the southern areas of the state itself. It also known for it's great potatoes.
17. State of Blue Grass, very much conservative and not surprising to see a lot of cowboys here. It named of course for it's bluish grass obviously.
18. State of Deseret, basically is inhabited by Mormons who consist most of the majority. When California was sent to Virgin Earth most of the Mormons living in California would eventually move into what used to be Utah and resettled it even recreating Salt Lake City. However even though it home to many Mormons, it also more cool when it mentioned that all the Mormons living there have advanced tech such as robot servants, genetically modified food, and even fast internet. Think of Mormons living in the far future. Pretty cool huh?
19. State of Mesa Verde, was given it's after a former national park, which was remade exactly like the Anasazi did in Pre-Columbian times. The state itself is pretty much moderate in politics and consists of a mixture of Caucasians and Latinos, but there are a lot of African Californians that reside in the cities as well.
20. State of Lopez, mostly the butt of many jokes since it used to be mostly the former state of New Mexico, thus over many generations a joke is passed down from parent to children that their own home state is known for being the home of a high school teacher who got cancer and then began making meth. Obviously silly thing is nobody really knows it actually fiction since it was from a early 21st century TV show, but then how can you expect people in the year 2600 to realize that?
21. State of Rio Grande, was mostly terraformed into lush farmland with the Rio Grande river itself serving as a major "artery" for the state. The state itself is widely known for it's well grown apples, watermelons, lemons, and oranges. Most of the people residing in the state are usually Latino or Caucasian-Latino mixed people.
22. State of Comanche, named after a tribe that used to reside in the former area centuries before ISOT. However most people here don't realize that long time ago before the ISOT there used to be a crazy wacky place home to many cowboys, farmers, and some weird religious people, but most people consider that a myth.
23. State of Hawaii, Hawaii was recolonized by the Californians shortly after ISOT, however this Hawaii is more different since there are less Native Hawaiians (there wasn't many Native Hawaiians residing in California during ISOT), there mostly huge number of Asians, Latinos, Africans, and Caucasians, not to mention the fact the state itself is very liberal and considered the most diverse in the entire Greater California Republic.
24. State of the Blue Islands, very tropical and home to plenty of Asian and Caucasian Californians. The state itself is often one of many famous destinations for vacation from people from the nation's capital and Greater Los Angeles, however the residents themselves seem to grow tired of the tourists due to certain reasons.
25. State of Marshall, also tropical like the Blue Islands, but is very widely known for fishing and diving. Most people here are usually Asian Californians some mostly being either of Vietnamese, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean ancestry.
26. State of Capricornia, the southern most state in the Greater California Republic. It's history is more strange but interesting since it was established by Californian colonists mostly who were not even of Australian descent, but instead of Irish, German, Mexican, Honduran, African-Californian, and Japanese descent. Being formerly the state of Queensland, Australia, the state itself was just like what Queensland once was before Europeans discovered it, much of it being vast tropical forests, grasslands, and desert. During the colonization of Capricornia much of the land was terraformed to fertile land allowing the growth of various fruits and grains, while cities were being created on the coast. It is very progressive in politics that even in the rural regions of the state it still progressive. It's capital is Sapphire Bay which is located in OTL Mackay, which is home to over 2.1 million residents.
-----------------
a. - Territory of Valdez, very cold in winter and often has little or no sunlight during it's six months of winter. Basically criminals convicted of any crime (except rape and murder, since criminals convicted of that are executed) are sent here to work in harsh labor for punishment. Depending of your crime you might be able to work your way back to society by showing and performing good behavior, but sometimes depending on your crime you might end up being there for years or your whole life. Another thing to note it that nobody under 18 is allowed to even visit Valdez for safety reasons.
b. - Territory of Nicaragua, was created to built the Nicaragua Canal since when California was ISOT there was no Panama Canal anymore, which gave exploring and colonizing a lot harder and longer. The territory itself mostly is inhabited by workers who work in boat industry or are in the military since the territory itself is where Greater California Republic holds most of it's advanced weapons and half of it's advanced air force.
c. - Territory of Carmen, was once the former Caribbean nation of Jamaica before ISOT. After ISOT, and after the Nicaragua Canal was complete it basically made the small populated territory into more populated slightly. It is seen as a Caribbean vacation destination for many from the nation's capital and Greater Los Angeles. The territory itself is usually inhabited by a mixture of African, Caucasian, and Latino residents making it even be nicknamed as the "Hawaii of the Caribbean" for this reason. Currently in present day many inhabitants of Carmen wish for statehood as the rise in popularity of statehood is becoming the norm among both youth and middle-aged folk, with this said it is likely in the very near future that Carmen might end up becoming a new state in the Greater Californian Republic.
d. The Galapagos were made a territory by the Californian government as well as a large national park with only a single town on one of the island. Only people living here are botanists, scientists, and biologists who live in work in the territorial capital of Eden. Tourism is also common thing as many nature loving folk like visiting here.
e. Californians decided to make Rapa Nui "better again" by making actually repulicas of the maoi stone heads and even gone far to create a total of 400 of them across the island. Reason they did this? Many suggest they wanted it to not be a pathetic island even though it is entirely forest now. Few people do live here but usually follow strict nature laws especially on how to use the island's resources wisely so they don't end up in same fate that struck the Easter Islanders.
f. The Juan Fernandez Islands are still used as a stepping stone for Californian ships to travel from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Even though it is more quicker to use the Nicaragua Canal, plenty of cargo ships still use the Juan Fernandez Islands as "pit-stops".
g. South Atlantic Islands Territory is lowly populated with a total of 20,000 people. They aren't however isolated from the outside world thanks to fast internet, ultra-sonic jets for transportation, and shipping. The islands are also commonly used by the Greater Californian Republic for military exercises mostly being the advanced air force and navy. Even though the residents of the territory aren't isolated, they are still annoyed by the fact the rest of everyone in the empire seems to ignore their existence.
h. The Azores Territory is commonly known for fishing, oceanography, as well as astronomy since most of California's big telescopes and radars are there. It commonly nicknamed by many as the "Cape Canaveral Islands" since it where most of California sends people into space and satellites into space.
i. Iberian Territory is the most important place for Californians when it comes to Europe, as the Iberian peninsula itself is slowly being settled and colonized by Latino Californians due to the historic links between Spain and Portugal and Latin America. Most people here are descendants of Honduran or Mexican Californians.
j. North African Territory is another major colonization effort done by progressive Muslims who wished to recolonize the Middle East and Northern Africa. Due to many centuries now, much of Islam has progressed into liberalism meaning it no longer plagued by terrorism and fundamentalism that it used to be in the early 21st century. This said much of Californian Muslims are very liberal and peaceful. However despite efforts of colonizing North Africa, it will take a longer time to colonize it due to the Sahara Desert since it is estimated that it would have to take literally a thousand times to terraform the Sahara into green.
k. The Indian Ocean Territory is where many Californian Hindus went to be closer with India. However interestingly enough much of these Hindus are even Caucasian and Latino who embraced Hinduism.
l. The Sentinelese Territory is literally the only place that Californians were able to come across other humans, of which happened to be the Sentinelese people of the Andaman Islands. Many theories say that they might of somehow been brought along with the Californians during the ISOT or that perhaps they were already here before they were. However the Sentinelese themselves are slowly beginning to have some of it's people assimilate into modern society. However many wish to still live their old ways, which of course the Greater Californian Republic actually gladly respects.
m. Californian Polynesia is the largest territory within the empire, it is very much likely to be split up in the far future once much of the islands become very populated and settled. However something worth noting is that there are some islands in Californian Polynesia that basically are nudist paradises where naturists who embrace closer toward Mother Nature reside, but of course in order to move here or even visit these certain islands one has be at least 18 years old.
n. Papua Territory is in start progress of fast colonization. It is estimated some parts of the island will become national parks while the rest will become a new state in the near future. Not to mention the fact being next door to the state of Capricornia also benefits them when it comes to trade.
o. Territory of Brecken is lowly populated by mostly cattle ranchers from the states of Southern California and Baja California. There is talks of many wishing to join as apart of the state of Capricornia due to it's economic influence.
p. The Morgan Line is basically there to show the plans in the colonization of Australia. The rest of Australia is up to debate on whether it should become a settler colony for people wishing to remake Australia as a nation or whether it should be made into a giant national park.
q. Territory of Southern Australia (including the island of Tasmania) is in the process of colonization. It very much going to end up becoming a state in the near future probably by the next decade.
r. Territory of Zealandia is also in process of colonization mostly by Latino and African Californians. The territory has become more important for wool and dairy products. The rest of the Greater Californian Republic likes to joke that the residents of Zealandia are actually "hobbits" when in reality nobody even knows what the hell a "hobbit" even is.
-------------
i. Republic of Mexico was established by Mexican Californians who wished to rebuilt Mexico after ISOT, however it hasn't managed to be successful since much of California has annexed Baja California and parts of northern Mexico. As a result the recreation of Mexico is pretty much hasn't gone well like many had expected.
ii. The Republic of Mobile is a small tiny and very poor nation that created by Californian white supremacists who saw a huge chance at making a new "white nation" after the ISOT. However they only failed badly and are almost in the status of a third world country ironically even though it's residents like to say that they're nation is a success when it isn't. Basically Greater Californian Republic completely ignores it not wishing to have anything to do with it whatsoever.
iii. Theocracy of New Jerusalem was founded by a bunch of Christian fundamentalists from San Francisco and Santa Barbara after ISOT. The nation is so backwards and far behind in technology that even the people do not even seem to care, and even the Greater Californian Republic doesn't care about them and ignores them. The only good thing is that this is basically where fundamentalists go if they manage to piss off many people in the Californian Empire.
iv. The Republic of Ecuador was established by Ecuadoran migrants from California after ISOT, though it hasn't completely managed to retake all of Ecuador, it is very developed and high in technology.
v. The Amazonian Corporate States, are basically a bunch of privately owned nations owned by many corporations that is into logging, despite the fact many Californians are against it. But then again they don't give a damn. But fortunately enough much of the people doing business and logging here are often having to deal with malaria and yellow fever.
vi. The Republic of Freedomia is a utopia created by Latinos, Caucasians, Asians, and Africans in which they managed to create a utopia where racism doesn't exist and everyone co-exists in peace. Many believe this is the closest way to get connected to human cradle of Africa.
vii. The French Republic is still in process of retaking all of former France by colonization. Most of the people who live in the French Republic were basically people who were French living or visiting California at the time of ISOT or have full or partial French ancestry. When it comes to speaking French most people can understand it and speak but in a totally exotic accent now due to the constant mixture of Haitian, African, and French people coming together. However plenty of people can speak fluent English and it even said English might very well replace the French language altogether.
viii. The Republic of Italy is in same situation like the French Republic, consisting a population of Italians who living or visiting California at the time of ISOT.

That'd work.

Then again...an Israeli province is conspicuously both existent *and* marked in a different shade than the rest of the Empire, so, uh....

*fingers crossed for Holy Land instead of alternative*

Like I said, I don't really remember anything about the map, but I probably intended for it to be an autonomous Holy Land of some kind.

I love how Italy dominates the entire Mediterranean and then some, while Germany only controls small portions of France and Poland.

I think the idea was that I was inverting German military prowess, so they got what they earned and nothing more.

Possibly the worst map of 2018 so far. A hodgepodge of ideas. While thinking about alternate Atlantropas (in the Baltic, for example), I came across the idea of it being done in the Caribbean. I've also added the trope of a Confederacy that gradually falls apart... Except, ITTL the north seceded. Also, Western Canada secession and the Bahamas as part of East Canada.

And, yes, I realize a Caribbean Atlantropa is unfeasible, but the idea was just too good to pass up.

How does that even work? Are there strings of dams connecting the islands?

Glad you didn't pass it up because this is an incredible idea that hadn't even crossed my mind. Who mans the dams? The relevant sovereignties of each connected island? I can only imagine that there's a greater degree of North American cooperation here than in OTL because allowing one dam to open could easily become a terrible weapon of war or act of terrorism.

It's not bad, it's robust.

Also is that a Manhattan Commune?

Hey, this is a map of a fictional country I created, I would like to have your opinions.

I love everything about it. I'm not at all convinced that it would play out like this in OTL (Russia would probably just stomp all over the secessionists instead), but I really love this kind of peaceful secession, followed by voluntary union of these smaller states. They could do well for themselves.
