Death to the Tricolour!
This is the first in (what I hope to be) a series, depending on interest, creating alternate flags for nations with a tricolour, basically making them more interesting and original. Don't get me wrong, the tricolour is aesthetically pleasing, but it's so ubiquitous!
Let's start with the original tricolour, the French.
This flag is based on the white cross used by France in the Hundred Years War. The symbol of the sun is from the Oriflamme. Fleur De Lis for obvious reasons. I'm imagining that this flag would be used by a monarchy. Please comment and suggest!

You're right, hadn't noticed.
I like it, but maybe you should make it a coat of arms instead, and place it on some sort of simple field.

The black outline of the lilies seems a little bit too strong, but otherwise, cool flag.
The British Colony of France?
That would work for France joining the UK, so they simply add a French cross. The original request was for an equal partnership between the two countries.

New flag for Italy
Continuing the work of Talkie Toaster. here are two flags for Italy (the second oldest tricolour, if my memory serves me right)

Royal Italy's flag - the crowns seem a bit odd. This sounds weird, I know, but think about it: their presence implies that the monarchy is tacked onto the country, and not part and parcel of the volksgeist. Thus, republicanism. Also, it looks a bit crowded in the centre, what with the Savoyard crest. If you get rid of the crowns it would look fine, though, so these are the same criticism, I guess.
Republican Italy: I like it, but the centre seems to cry out for a fifth star.

I think they're better without the symbols. (The arms of the House of Savoy is quite alright, though.)
@ The Kingdom of Italy: Nice usage of symbols. Very good flag overall.
@ The Republic of Italy: The Center does seem to need a star but if you were to give it one that would make the other 4 redundant. So i could see that flag in one of two ways, the 4 star design u got right now or a single (and larger) central star design.

Very nice, though I'd suggest making the fleurs and the suns just a little bit smaller.
Good stuff. Nicely distinctive, without being silly, which is a decent trick to pull off.
Is the Boise national anthem "Boise Boise Boise (I'm looking for a good time)"?

Royal Italy is nice though the colour of the shield outline clashes.
Republican Italy: Those are sensible suggestions.
