In OTL, the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s honestly just depends on what people are referring to.I'm feeling the good old early 2000s TV and pop-culture by just reading this TL. Especially when it comes with Cartoon Network's Powerhouse Era and Nickelodeon's Games n Sports.
The 90s feels basically extended well into 2004 for TTL.
It looks like we get a Pope John XXIV instead of Benedict XVI. I do wonder what will become of OTL's Benedict XVI if he doesn't become the pope
(Left to Right) Time Magazine featuring Pope John XXIV on the cover
This I can agree. In OTL, the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s honestly just depends on what people are referring to.
The end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s IMHO can be either of these three things:
In Iwanh's timeline, without 9/11, a lot of people would probably say that the 90s feelings would die out in 2004. This would probably happen around the time of Russia's Terrorist Attack.
- January 1, 2000: The actual start of the new decade calendar-wise. It also sort of starts the 21st century and the new millennium (technically, they officially wouldn't start until 2001, but only scientists do it that way)
- September 11, 2001: Society wise, 9/11 obviously changed a lot in society, especially here in the US.
- 2004: Culturally, the early 2000s was more in line with the 90s then the rest of the 2000s. 2004 was the year things really started to change culture-wise and 90s trends and things started to either die out or lose popularity.
Second the motion! If anybody is interested, I've nominated this tl for a turtledove in the Best Cold War to Contemporary Timeline category So if anyone agrees on the nom, it just needs a seconding
Ahh you have to go into the thread and second it https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...rary-timeline-nominations-and-seconds.538822/Second the motion!
@Iwanh Maybe you could make a referenceOne effect of the Columbia Disaster being butterflied is that the Space Shuttle program continues for longer than OTL, and that Laurel Clark goes on to be the first woman to land on the moon in 2012. Neil Armstrong lives to see mankind return to the moon, but dies less than a year later.
I have a space idea in mindMaybe you could make a reference
That might not be necessary soon? What if Mohammed Zahir Shah and the crown prince formed a Afghanistan government in exile
Thanks for the link, King of Danes.Ahh you have to go into the thread and second it https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...rary-timeline-nominations-and-seconds.538822/

It looks like this timeline has been nominated and seconded, but when does the actual voting for the Turtledoves begin?
