Note that the expansion here is over hundreds of years. It started out as the dark green dot on the peninsula, expanded and colonized a trade empire in the two lighter green colors, and finally conquered itself an inland empire in the sparsely inhabited north.

Here is my first draft of where civilization developed, criticism wanted.
A- it didn't seem very fertile, but I figure it could act like a Mexico-expy
B- reminded me of Egypt, plus I already had plans for a civilization here
C- thinking further ahead, civilization could develop here with influence from somewhere else, a bit like the Sahel
E- maybe the origin of that pre-collapse civilization?
G- probably the wettest cradle; lots of rice grown here
H- maybe?

I'm going to go ahead and post the first couple centuries of Azotse's history. I don't want to get too far without knowing what's happening in other civilizations, but I'd like to get the ball rolling at some point. Instead of making new posts for each part of its history, I'll probably just edit this post.
The Azotse civilization began in the early 10th century AC. Its early history is rather vague, as it lacked a proper writing system, but most historians agree that the city of Othaesa had united many of the city states along the Taahaigo River by 1000 AC. Shortly thereafter, a handful of Fetsa city states downriver broke away and formed their own state, and decades of conflict ensued.

I think I could make Deuras a descendant of Proto-Rumaic, there's noticeable similarities between their consonant inventories and noun grammar.

I'm glad you take interest in my ideas. As for the nation that invaded Deurond, it was just some relatively unimportant petty kingdom that thought that conquering the now greatly weakened Deurond would make them seem more prestigious. Honestly I just threw that part in to finish up the history section. Maybe I'll write more about it later.
