Lands of Red and Gold : Dramatis Personae
This page offers overviews of characters - both historical and allohistorical - that appear in the Lands of Red and Gold timeline. They are sorted by the setting in which they primarily appear in - by continent, but also by country/nationality and time period.

1. Aururians and Aotearoans
Native, pre-European cultures of Aururia (Australia) and Aotearoa (New Zealand).
a.) Prehistory and "Antiquity" of Aururia
Character list to be added.
b.) "The Middle Ages" of Aururia
Kawiti - Possibly semi-legendary Maori sailor from the Tangata iwi, who was the first Maori to make landfall in Aururia and achieve contact with the natives (specifically, the nation of Raduru). Revered by Maoris centuries later as a legendary character/hero.

c.) Era of opening up to the outside world (1620-18th century)
Bana (lit. “Nameless”) - Pseudonym of a professional Pliirite missionary of Nangu origin, who did missionary activities in the mid 17th century among the Kurnawal of Cider Island (Tasmania) and later among the Maori of Aotearoa (New Zealand).
Barcoo Nyugal - Nuttana (Nangu/Kiyungu) captain from Wujal, who led a popular revolt in Cavendia in the early 18th century and became one of the forefathers of the Congxie nation.
Gatjibee, Lifetime Champion (Footballer) of the Greens
Golds of Renown - Collective name for the football team of the Golds faction in the Kingdom of Tjibarr.
Guneewin III. - The Gunnagal king of the Kingdom of Tjibarr during the 1630s and 1640s. Started his reign in 1633.
Gumaring, First Speaker of the Azures
Kaalong, Sentinel of the Blacks
Magool Wallira - Member of the Blues faction in the Kingdom of Tjibarr during the late 1630s. Received a diplomatic letter from Nyulinga of the Azures faction.
Murranbulla, Land Controller, the Reds
Nabool - Member of the Golds faction in the Kingdom of Tjibarr during the late 1630s. Associate of Waminung.
Nyulinga - Member of the Azures faction in the Kingdom of Tjibarr during the late 1630s. Sent a diplomatic letter to Magool Wallira of the Blues faction.
Pila Dadi, Premier Land Controller, for the Whites
Tjee Burra, Senior Physician, the Grays
Waminung - Sentinel of the Golds faction in the Kingdom of Tjibarr during the late 1630s. Associate of Nabool.
Wemba of the Whites
Werringi Wolalta aka Kumgatu the Bold - Nangu sailor and captain born into the Wolalta bloodline (clan), who arguably became the most famous Aururian sailor in history during his three grand exploratory voyages in the 17th century. Later, he was among the founders of a Nangu colony in the Kiyungu lands in northeastern Aururia, which gradually grew into the Nuttana nation.

d.) Later history (18th century - "Present")
Mr. Clements - A semi-mysterious old Aururian native who hands down oral histories of his life and the history of the area he was born in to reporter Carl Ashkettle in 1912.

2. Europeans
a.) Dutch
François Thijssen - The first European to visit the eastern parts of the South Land (later Aururia).
Frederik de Houtman - Discoverer of Aururia (OTL Australia), called in his time “The South Land”. He established early diplomatic and trade links with the Atjuntja Empire. Later historians of the timeline considered him an Aururian equivalent of Columbus and terms like “pre-Houtmanian”, “post-Houtmanian” and “Houtmanian crop exchange” were commonplace.
Jan Coen - Governor-General of the Dutch East India Company.
Lauren Nuyts - Son of Pieter Nuyts, died in the aftermath of a battle of the Dutch and their hired mercenaries with an army of the Yadji Empire.
Pieter Nuyts - Dutch conquistador of the Yadji Empire. Ultimately proved unsuccesful, but struck some deals with the Kingdom of Tjibarr, which offered him shelter after his defeat at the hands of the Yadji. The people of Tjibarr pronounced his name as “Peetanootj”.

William Cavendish - 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Charles Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Newcastle - An allohistorical son of William Cavendish, 1st Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Carl Ashkettle - A young journalist in early 20th century Aururia who becomes acquainted with the mysterious aboriginal storyteller “Mr. Clements”.

Myumitsi Makan aka Solidarity Jenkins - Congxie social activist, founder of an early form of trade unionism.
Diligence Ledda - A historian from the 1980s, author of the book Children of Three Worlds.

7. Names of ships and vessels
Though the ships are not living characters, some of the named ones play significant roles in the timeline's storyline.
a.) European
Assendelft - Dutch trade yacht that was part of a small Dutch fleet led by de Houtman that discovered southwestern Australia/Aururia in April 1620 AD.
Delight - a ship in the fleet of William Baffin's expedition to Aururia.
Godspeed - a ship in the fleet of William Baffin's expedition to Aururia.
Hasewint - Dutch trade yacht that was part of a small Dutch fleet led by de Houtman that discovered southwestern Australia/Aururia in April 1620 AD.
Intrepid - the lead ship in the fleet of William Baffin's expedition to Aururia.
Lady Harrington - a ship in the fleet of William Baffin's expedition to Aururia.
Tyger - Dutch ship from the 1610s that captain Adriaen Block used for exploration of the east coast of North America. This ATL's country of Tygeria is named in honour of the ship.
Wesel - Dutch trade yacht that was part of a small Dutch fleet led by de Houtman that discovered southwestern Australia/Aururia in April 1620 AD.
b.) Aururian
Barrbay (“Swiftness”) - One of the first Nangu greatships to use a European-style configuration of two masts on the main deck.
Garoo - Nangu greatship used by Werringi/Kumgatu during his third great exploratory voyage, in which he managed to reach Japan and trade with the locals.
