Daily Mail

A right-wing British tabloid newspaper often mocked on the forum, due to:

  • Assuming falling house prices are the worst possible consequence of any event (e.g. “Explosion kills 325 in London - will this cause a fall in house prices??”)
  • Obsession with asylum seekers as the cause of all the country's evils
  • Obsession with Z-list celebrities
  • The belief that absolutely everything gives you cancer.
  • That everyone who isn't a reader is a benefit cheat. And when they don't like a reader, they'll likely fix up a story about them being one. Or an immigrant. You can bet they'll try to work in a dubious connection to the fall of house prices somehow though.

These can be summarised by the classic Private Eye spoof Mail headline:

ASYLUM SEEKERS FOUND IN TAP WATER CAUSE CANCER

House Prices Predicted to Fall

Often called the 'Daily Pail', 'Daily Fail' or 'Daily Wail'.

Historically notorious for taking a pro-Nazi view in the 1930s and also defending Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists (hence the infamous headline 'Hurrah for the Blackshirts').

And then getting worked up and labelling the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg a rotten Nazi as it's probably something to do with him affecting house prices and being less worried by immigration. Don't ask. It's better not to unless you wish to retain some semblance of sanity.

The Daily Mail also featured in Luaky Commer as the equivalent of the Holy Grail.
