Anglo-American Rivalry (working-title) is a work-in-progress timeline by oshron. Unlike his longer timeline, Atlas: The March Towards the End, Anglo-American Rivalry covers a much narrower span of time and is being written with the intention of being much more realistic. If Anglo-American Rivalry is ever written in a Turtledove-like story format, the POV characters will be fictionalized versions of oshron's real ancestors, mostly Americans but also at least one Italian.

The earliest POD is technically September 4, 1783, but significant changes don't start coming up until after 1800 due to a butterfly effect with no immediate changes. The timeline continues through to the OTL present-day (which will be adjusted depending on how long it takes to actually finish the timeline) and focuses on a mutual hatred between the United States and the United Kingdom. Due to the butterfly effect, numerous other changes take place as well, most of which have not been set in stone. One is that Antarctica is known by three different, equally-valid names in the American, British, and Russian spheres of influence because of conflicting claims of discovery; another is that the Falkland fox (Malvinas culpeo ITTL) does not go extinct; and California and Texas are also admitted to the United States at nearly their maximum sizes and only California partitioned into a select few other states. The most obvious changes, though, pertain to the American and British empires: the borders that the US shares with Mexico and British Canada (as well as its internal borders) are quite different, with Mexico retaining Southern California, the Gadsden Purchase, and the Nueces Strip while the US-Canadian border is never formalized at the 45th parallel; the UK, on the other hand, gains and loses different areas than IOTL, such as not establishing transcontinental territory on Africa because of Omani and Portuguese colonization on the continent, the internal borders of Australia are much different ITTL, and much more of Africa and Asia falls under British control.

• Brazil: comprised of the southern part of the OTL country, breaks off from Portugal later than IOTL
• Brunei: sells North Borneo to the United States, which is ratified and later absorbs Brunei as well
• Chile: forming something of its own colonial empire, including OTL French Polynesia and the Malvinas (Falkland Islands)
• East African Federation: a late arrival to the world of independent nations, comprised of formerly Arabic territory
• France: one of the closest allies of the United States, which succumbs to more than one wave of revolutionaries
• Germany: becomes a true ally of the United Kingdom, a rare sight in mostly anti-British Europe
• Italy: unified by Naples as the Italian Federation, and incorporating some territory which belongs to France IOTL
• Japan: joins forces with the British because of a mutual hatred towards the United States
• Oman: a leading power in the Middle East, colonizing most of OTL Kenya and Tanzania, and becoming very influential
• Pashtunistan: an unconquerable landlocked state in the Middle East (TTL's Afghanistan)
• Portugal: retains northern Brazil for a time, which is eventually lost as a socialist republic
• Thailand: becomes an ally of the United States following the American Civil War and imports elephants to the Union
