A small county in the south of England whose name means “Southern Kingdom”. It originally bordered Middlesex across the Thames but has been pushed back by the expansion of London so much that its county town, Kingston-upon-Thames (not to be confused with the much sunnier one in Jamaica), is now officially a London borough, leading to much confusion about where Surrey ends and London begins.
