WI: No Ghostbusters II

Note: I actually don't mind Ghostbusters II. It has it's flaws, but I still find it entertaining.
What if Ghostbusters II, the 1989 sequel to the classic 1984 comedy Ghostbusters, had never been made? What would this mean for the Ghostbusters franchise? Would the remake have been made earlier? Would there have been any attempts to make a "Ghostbusters II" in the late 90's to Early to Mid 2000's?

A nice oneshot and a massive advantage, the hollywood obssesion of happy ending override might be killed

Hope not, just talking how this would unfold, still the rest would be what could happen? i think the cartoon would be the sequel here

You would still have the cartoon, as per OTL, but without some of the later changes to the series that were taken negatively, although there'd still be some of them. What changes would be the view of the franchise from the 90's. Would it still get the Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon? And would butterflies prevent the bitter split between Ramis and Murray that prevented a Ghostbusters III?
