Something that has got me thinking while doing my ATL football topic is of a different kind of Euro '92. As we all know, Sweden '92 would be the last tournament that would have 8 teams before it would be expanded to 16 teams for England '96, but what if it was to happen four years earlier for Euro 92, how would've things gone?

Looking at the qualifiers, it is quite likely that we could've had more British teams there, all four in fact which would've been fitting considering the last time all four British teams played at a tournament was in 1958 when the World Cup so happened to be hosted in Sweden.

Using the draw system for Euro 96, it might've looked something like this?

Seeded
  • Sweden (hosts)
  • Netherlands (holders)
  • Germany
  • Italy
Pot
  • France
  • Denmark
  • England
  • Scotland
  • CIS
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland/Republic of Ireland (Play off game?)
  • Czechoslovakia
  • Switzerland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
Just a rough idea of what it might've been, but any idea of how the tournament might've gone and what sporting butterflies that could've been that might've effected future tournaments?
