While working on something else I was struck by this thought what would be the effect of Egypt coming in on the allied side in 1940, with the entry of Italy into the war?

How would this affect the war in the middle-east?

More interesting in some way, what difference would it make to the Arab Israeli war of 1948.

You now have an Egyptian army where most of the officers, at least those above captain have recent war experience, as do all of the senior NCOs’, how much will this affect the campaign?

It wouldn't have happened. Egyptians OTL put up so poor a performance against a few badly-equipped Jewish defenders, that ATL against Germans the Egyptians would have "squealed and bolted" at once and would have been a total liability for the Allies. Likely British command knew that and kept them at home.
