And the rondelet is based on the *old* US Air Force Logo. The new Logo is just plain cold... hey that's an idea!

It'd probably just be the WWII Italian Kingdom flag with the eagle. That flag already had the Roman eagle and fasces on it anyway. It wasn't going to be a literal ROMAN EMPIAH, in the cool sense, but just an obese Italy under almost complete control of Germany.
If you wanted something else, perhaps something resembling the 1805 flag (with the French Roman eagle replaced, of course):

Depending on your timeline the flag is inspired by the French or Italian Republic. The red is a traditional colour on Moroccan flags, the white represents peace, and the green represents Islam, the majority religion. It is also representative of peace between Berbers (represented by red) and Arabs (represented by green). The star is based on the seal of Solomon, and is essentially a symbol to ward off bad luck or evil influence, as well as being seen as a traditional moroccan symbol.
The communist version is fairly self-explanatory

I'll make sure to give you the link when I get the TL for all of these started shortly.Just a slight note on the republican flag; by the time it would become a republic, the Empire would now only consist of Spain and the northernmost tip of Morocco. I'm not whether that would alter your decisions and the flag design. Also, a communist version of the nation would have the same territory as the republican version and would be based on its flag, rather than the Imperial flag. Sorry for the added detail and problems.

With the Republican flag I was influenced by the pan arab and pan african colors, however it also works as a european flag imo in the tradition of republican tricolors since the French Revolution. If you're happy to stick with that flag then here is a possible Communist offshoot, heavily based on my all time heroes of North Vietnam..

The American revolution never takes the independence path and instead aims to create a British Republic around the Atlantic. Gordon Riots evolve into a sympathetic revolutionary movement. Ultimately, the King is killed a Second Commonwealth is established and the American colonies are directly integrated into the British Republic.
