Ladies and Gentlemen (and attack helicopters), it my distinguished honor of presenting, the President of the United States, Hosea Blackford!

Nice one. But I believe he was in New York when he died. Because, if I remember correctly, Flora took a call from President Al Smith while she was still in New York. She said that they were taking back to Dakota to be buried.

Day of Defeat TL-191.jpg

Above is a screen-shot of the 2005 video "Day of Defeat: Source" made by the Valve Corporation. It is an online war game where players play on teams consisting of soldiers of the United States Army and the Confederate States Army, fighting through the streets and rubble of the Second Great War. It must be noted that the screen-shot above is that of a slightly modified version where the Confederate Army has the Freedom Party flag (which is heavily censored in most video games) as their symbol, as apposed to the normal battle flag and the player models of Freedom Party Guards with their gray uniforms, instead of the butternut uniform of the standard army.

Within Day of Defeat you can play two main game modes, of which are territories and demolition, and can be played on their respective maps. To win the former game mode, one of each team needs to capture all territories within the map to win. The latter game mode involves one of either team using explosives to destroy certain targets such as anti-aircraft guns, armored cars, and barrels. The alternative way to win either game type is to eliminate all members of the opposing team.

The game also has a set of six player classes to choose from, with their different weapon kits, which contain a primary weapon, secondary weapon, a melee weapon, and a grenade (usually two), depending on the faction of the player. These classes include:

United States:

Rifleman
Primary Weapon: Springfield M1903
Secondary Weapon: Colt 1911
Melee: Trench knife
Grenade: Rifle Grenade

Assault
Primary Weapon: Thompson
Secondary Weapon: Colt 1911

Quick question, does anyone know the exact dates of the deaths of Wade Hampton V and Al Smith? They say the year, but I don't remember a specific day and month for the two of them. Speaking of Wade Hampton, what picture can I use for him, Burton Mitchel, and Gabriel Semmes?

It might be safe to use a picture of Wade Hampton III for Wade Hampton V due to the fact that they would look similar due to their lineage. Just saying.

I don't know the exact dates, so I made some up for my miniseries of Presidential Profiles (I've posted links to the relevant articles below).

Speaking of Wade Hampton, what picture can I use for him, Burton Mitchel, and Gabriel Semmes?

Well as it happens I have done some research into the subject of possible "life models" for Semmes, Hampton & Mitchel: here are some of the results, feel free to take your pick!

SEMMES

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/63251417#view-photo=39136951 - Photograph of Raphael Semmes II (probably a little too difficult to make out).

https://www.pensapedia.com/wiki/File:OJSemmesSr.jpg - Oliver John Semmes, a grandson of Raphael Semmes (possibly a little too young to be a suitable model).

http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/people/hobson/hobson.gif - Mr Richmond P. Hobson, not a member of the Semmes family, but a Naval Hero from Alabama who went into politics.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0a/Portrait_of_Richmond_P._Hobson.jpg - He's about the right age and he could certainly
grow a moustache worthy of Raphael Semmes' grandson!

HAMPTON

I've actually got into the habit of using Mr George Macready (see PATHS OF GLORY) when depicting Wade Hampton; he looks a little like the portrait of one the earlier Wade Hamptons and he certainly has the right look for a genteel Southern Politician.

http://i8.lisimg.com/68598/267full.jpg - Evidence in defence of that assertion.

http://movie-dude.co.uk/George Macready Gilda (1946).jpg - the blurring in this picture might make it work better for a 1920s portrait.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Macready#/media/File:George-macready-trailer.jpg - the picture that made me imagine Mr Macready as a CS General & President.

MITCHEL

As a note Find-a-Grave is very useful when chasing down descendants of historic figures (if only leading you to names that you can Google for pictures), but the original Charles Burton Mitchel cheated me so I went to my other great well of inspiration Wikipedia and went through lists of Representatives & Senators from Arkansas; here are a few of the pictures that struck me as the most "Mitchel" (by the way, I encourage you to look through the original Wikipedia to find your own perfect casting choice).

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...anOldfield.jpg/640px-WilliamAllanOldfield.jpg - Mr William A Oldfield, a "life model" I favour because he has the right balance of trustworthiness with "I am secretly out of my depth but admit NOTHING" that one believes would fit Mitchel.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otis_Wingo#/media/File:OtisWingo.jpg - I think this might be my personal favourite "casting choice" for Mitchel because he has a slightly absurd hairstyle, a fairly trustworthy aspect and a strong hint of what might be mule stubborn-headedness or subtle petulance that would help sell Charles Burton Mitchel III as a President who outstayed his welcome to disastrous effect.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_congressional_delegations_from_Arkansas - Take a look through these lists and if an article you link to lacks a portrait then make sure to use the name for a Google search (I've found more than one useful portrait that way).

Keep up the Good Work DA!:)

Since Wade Hampton III and Wade Hampton IV were both big in the facial hair department I'd imagine Wade Hampton V to adhere to that as well. Probably lose the beard as time passes by though... actually, how about K. J. Ståhlberg, the first President of Finland for the role of him? Even the eyebrows kinda fit.

Have you also done information for Burton Mitchel as well?

DA, the only quibble I can possibly list against your Wiki Profile on CS President Semmes is that he was almost certainly ranked higher than a Master Chief Petty Officer; my guess is that he would be Full Captain (OF-5), as it seems likely that had he risen to be an Admiral he'd probably have stuck with the Navy rather than entered politics in time to become Wilson's Vice Presidential candidate (although it might be amusing if he only rose to be commander/OF-4 and was only ever addressed as "Captain Semmes" by courtesy).
