North American Community:
Somewhere between the OTL USAN and EU in the mid 90's.
It has a common economy and their are plans to introduce a common currency in the near future.

whose "are plans"? Rather, "there are." There is an adverb of location, and their is a possessive pronoun.

South Asian Union:
More or less similar at the same level as the OTL EU in terms of integration, though with less skeptics.

"fewer skeptics" but "less skepticism" - "fewer" with countable things, "less" with uncountable things

Less talk, more maps.

Anywhoo, here's an old one I decided to pull out of storage and finish - it's a rather multinational North America, in a world where England never got into American colonization the way it did OTL. After the fall of England to the French Autocracy and the division the bulk of the Old World between three great authoritarian powers, most of the states of North America formed a defensive federation to keep them from meddling in North American affairs. Things have become less tense since the Pan-Eurasian war and the Russian Revolution (as a result of which Aleyaska joined the Confederation), but the Confederation had become a going concern by that time.

The Confederation has sixteen members. It is roughly as united as OTL NATO+the EC, although with greater labor mobility. An extensive railway system links the states, and highways are being constructed. Its central government of sorts is located in the city of Herning in Skovland (former Danish America), which is 1. one of the richer states and therefore able to provide all the mod cons and 2. one of the smaller states and therefore considered less able to manipulate the agenda by playing host. Due to hostility to the Hegemony, Spanish rather than the more wide-spread French is used as a common language for government business.

Tejas and California are breakaway states from Mexico. Tejas is a bit like our old Texas in being a state of oilmen and ranchers and corny populists, although, being Catholic, there isn't an equivalent to the Evangelical crowd. While Tejas has a large French minority, California has people from all over who came in with the Gold Rush, has three official languages, and although fairly prosperous is one of the most politically turbulent of the Confederation's members, with governments changing as often as OTLs French Third Republic.

The Confederation has four native American members. Apacheria, with its mix of Amerindians, Mexican exiles, and smugglers of all races, is somewhat uncertainly so, and is with Piquetie one of the "bad boys" of the Confederation, notorious for illegal over-the-border dealings with Mexico and government corruption: it remains a member mainly due to an attitude on the part of the Confederation government of "Better inside the tent, pissing out, than..." The Mandan-Lakota Confederation and the Great Waters Union are to some extent satellites of Lousiana, although the Union is becoming increasingly independent as it grows as a center of industry. The Iroqouis Confederation is as modern as any state in the Federation, but is suffering from a bit of turmoil as a younger generation, (never mind that the country is running about 70% white or ethnically mixed nowadays) call for a return to their cultural roots.

Virginia did well in cotton and slaves the same as OTL, but with no real chance of westwards expansion and soil exhuastion, found itself with an oversupply of slaves. Freed blacks were energetically encouraged to emigrate, and many found themselves in more tolerant Louisiana. As their numbers grew, Lousiana grew less tolerant, and Prime Minister Piquet came up with the "brilliant" notion of settling the blacks among the still uncivilized Indians of the north, as a sort of border guard. Although the first few decades were ... difficult, in the end, bolstered by fresh flows of African-Americans as Virginia ended slavery and replaced it with share-cropping and new "race laws", the free blacks carved out their own states on the frontier and over the last few decades have managed to gain independence from the "tutelage" of Lousiana. Beulah is a fairly successful mostly agricultural republic, but Piquetie has bad corruption problems and is an essentially one-party state.

The French of Lousiana and the Kingdom of Canada, if they joined forces, would dominate the Confederation, but fortunately for the stability of the same, agricultural, anti-clerical, republican Lousiana does not get along at all well with conservative, religious, heavily industrialized Canada, home of the house of Valois in exile since the revolution of 1823. Lousiana has a large anglophone minority, and resents greatly Canadian claims to superior Frenchness.

Virginia is mostly Anglican by religion, and about 1/4 black in spite of the westward migrations. The most populous of the Confederation's states, it one of the more conservative of the states when it comes to economics, and grumbles a great deal about any new all-Confederation economic plans coming out of Herning. Still, it sticks with the Confederation, perhaps due to its hot anger over the French overruning of its home country and the later crushing of the Rising of '47: the Confederation as a whole might be able to break the French hold on most of Europe one day - Virginia alone, most unlikely.

New Holland speaks Dutch as a first language, French and British as second languages, and has per capita the largest Jewish population in the Confederation. It is also per capita the richest state in the Confederation, and poorer states such as Beulah or Texas grumble about the Hollander-Jewish alliance buying up all of North America. Still, New Holland is the essential financial center of the Confederation, and is rivalled only by Louisiana as a center of Confederation culture and art.

Skovland is Lutheran, prosperous and rather clean and neat, and increasingly a bit uneasy about all these Hispanics and French and Indians and blacks and who knows what else which are starting to show up in increasing numbers of late in their little corner of the continent. Jamaica, on the other hand, is the second-poorest member of the Confederation, politically turbulent, colorful, and a vigorous exporter of emmigrants to the rest of the Confederation. It is also a late joiner, having been liberated from Spanish rule during the brief but bloody Greenland War.

Another late joiner was Alaska, which houses the last of the Romanovs as Canada houses the last of the French kings. It suffers from severe right-left political divisions, although at least since the disastrous Fifth International the far Left are no longer actively working to see Alaska rejoined (by force if need be) with the Holy Eurasian People's Union. It is also noted among other Confederation members as a major exporter of Orthodox Evangelicals, which are in a great hurry to get everyone converted before Jesus arrives.

Quite surrounded by the Confederation, but largely isolated from it, is the Great Spirit Kingdom, a mountainous theocracy founded by a native American prophet. It's almost entirely native American population follows a largely traditional lifestyle, and it is the poorest state in North America. Unsurprisingly, smuggling is rife. It survives mainly because of political pressure from the Confederation's native American members, nostalgic thinking re traditional native American culture, and because the Beulahans, the Californians, and the Alaskans never could agree how to split it up. Currently, there is a fierce debate re rumors of human rights abuses on the part of the Hereditary Prophet's government form a prima facie reason for intervention.

The Confederation does not get along at all well with Mexico, which is a French ally and frequently makes loud grumbly noises about its lost territories. Several groups in the Confederation are secretly funding revolutionary groups in Mexico, of which the Liberty Brigades of the "Mosquitia free state" are currently the most successful.

It is a somewhat more backwards world, with roughly 1920s and 1930s trechnology. (And airships, of course. :D ) Currently a complex balance of power exists between the Confederation, the Empire of Japan, the French Hegemony, and the Russian Holy Socialists and their ilk, with various lesser powers (such as Brazil, the North Indian Union and the Shi'a league) trying to find space for maneuver...

Here's the start of yet another map serial (I know, you can hardly contain yourselves). This time it's from EU3 with me as Burgandy and starting in 1399. And if you can think of a better, blanker European map, let me know. Dark Red is Burgandy, Light Red are the vassals.

Here are links for blank province maps for EUIII.

I've also gone out on a limb, and assumed you're using HTTT (Lorraine 2 provinces due to creation of Bar), and thus your map using the one provided would look like this as a startig point. Note that in your original, you've place Lorraine mostly in Alsace

Ah, yes I am. Thanks for the map. Bar, or whatever it's called, is an ally, which is how I got into war with France in the first place. I don't suppose there is a base world map for the game like this one?

Actually, I am. I looked up how to divide up Indonesia for my alternate Shadowrun timeline :p (because in the real Shadowurn timeline they merely have Idonesia split by islands, which doesnt make much sense)

So your alternate Shadowrun TL will have its PoD before 1949 ? :p

Nah. Look, the USA lost half its territory to uprising Amerindians in the Shadowrun TL, so dont expect the most plausible TL ever! :p Likewise, just as the Anglo-Americans were expelled from the new Amerindian lands, the native peoples of Borneo and Celebes did a bit of magically (its Shadowrun!) supported ethnic cleansing to "solve" the "problem" of inhabitants of Javanese etc. descant. Bali soon followed a similar route. The rest of Indonesia collapsed under the stress.

So in Sumatra there is Aceh in the North, a Minangkabu State in the West, a Malay State in the East, and a multui-ethnic State of Sumatra in the south. Java including Madura tried to reinvent itself as a Javanese-Sundanese-Madurese triple ethnicity state. Borneo (incl. Malaysian parts and Brunei) and Celebes are a loose confederation of peoples and tribes, with a still Chinese-majority Kuching as gate to it and an autonomous position. Also in SE Borneo the Banjar have built up an own state and in SW Celebes indeed the Bugis ;) have built up an own state, too. East of Java are Bali and Lombok, both independant states (since Balis independance was won through reawakened Hindu Magic the Sasak on Lombok had no wish to join), and east of that a real chaos of instable state all economically based on piracy: (Eastern) Sumbawa, Sumba, Wetar, West Timor, East Timor, Flores, the Free Islands Association of the small islands east of Flores, Rote, a Babar/Tanimbar/Aru/Kai Islands state... and of course, in the NE theres Ambon, Banda and the North Molucces Federation. And it goes without saying that New Guinea is an united state ;)

...hey why... how can have become so red? And stop it with heavy breathing! And most importantly stop it with the murderous face! And put away that knife! You hear me, put away that knife!!

...and if you have done so, btw, could you clear something up for me: Who DOES inhabit the southwestern "leg" of Celebes/Sulawesi? What Ive read of the Bugis is that they live here, but Ive also read the same about the Makassarese people - logically, what was Makassar being there. (With "read" I admittedly only meant online searches [though also beyond Wiki :p ], but hey, its not supposed to be a doctor thesis :p )

Psst, he doesn't care ;)

:D

Sorry Bruce, I can't resist :p:

"less" is actually popularly accepted as equivalent to "fewer".
It's used in the same way that "more" means "many-er" (for countables) and "much-er" (for uncountables): e.g More skeptics, more skepticism.

And speaking of maps...

Another B_Munro-ist map, this time of a Red Alert-type scenario set in the future of Scott Westerfield’s WWI Dieselpunk/Biopunk trilogy.

The diplomatic expedition led by Nora Darwin Barlow convinced the Clanker Ottomans into neutrality with the gift of the three surviving Behemoth eggs, which subsequently prompted Bulgaria (Clanker) and Romania (Darwinist) to do the same. Subsequently, Anglo-Ottoman relations improved, especially given the position of Russia. The Ottomans are the world’s major oil exporters, selling most of its supply to Britain or France.

Following the death of Emperor Franz-Josef in 1916, Prince Aleksander’s Papal-sanctioned claim to the throne prompted Karl I to step up the search for his nephew. Unfortunately, he suffered an unfortunate “accident”, allowing Aleksander to take the throne unopposed, with Count Volger as his regent. Austria-Hungary sued for peace with Serbia, Russia and Italy, encouraged by Britain (though not so much by France). Furious by this betrayal, the Kaiser forced an ultimatum to Austria – return to the war on his side, or face retribution.

But the young Emperor wasn’t going to just roll over- after securing a cease-fire with his neighbours, and his power base at home, Germany was forced to declare war on its former ally.

However, surrounded, Germany was forced to surrender in 1918, especially after the destruction of the Herkules and its sisters. Though the US didn’t enter the war, with Austria-Hungary a co-belligerent of the Allies, they weren’t needed. Although Wilson applauded the end of the war, he stated that the peace settlement “failed to address the greater problems of self-determination, preferring to maintain the greater security of the established order”.

Though the German peace was harsh – loosing its entire colonial empire and several slices of its European territory – it wasn’t *quite* as harsh as OTL, though it is banned from creating any walker with more than six legs, and anything with more than four legs are significantly restricted. France gained the Saarland, and Russia, the Polish-majority border regions of West Prussia and Posen; even Austria-Hungary makes a small gain, a tiny snip of southern Silesia, which had a significant Czech population.

Serbia feels hung out to dry. With A-H only having to pay a small amount of reparations and its desires for Greater Serbia crushed, the country has undergone a tumultuous episode, leading to a ferociously nationalist government being elected.

Germany feels similarly betrayed. Nationalist fervour is flamed against both the Allies and Austria-Hungary, as well as against the warmongering Kaiser and his government. The monarchy is overthrown and replaced with a republic. However, Germany’s troubles are not over. Clashed between the hard-right and the hard-left leads to the eventual victory of the former, creating a fascist (though not Nazi) government.

The two Darwinist powers of Italy and Russia also feel let down by their allies. Italy was promised gains from Austria-Hungary, a promise that was broken to ensure the latter’s support. Despite territorial concessions from France and Britain, Italy still feels betrayed, leading to internal turmoil, only ended when the *Fascists take power.

Russia, miffed at not getting to fight the Ottomans and gain Constantinople, nevertheless did quite well out of the Great War. However, they feel that some extra padding in Poland is far from a decent return for all those casualties, especially after the backstab from the western Allies over Austria-Hungary and the effective betrayal of Serbia, Montenegro and Albania.

Greece sympathises for its northern neighbours, especially with Serbia, over their betrayal.

As a result, these former enemies eventually draw closer together in mutual animosity over their respective former allies. The Rome-Berlin-Belgrade-St. Petersburg-Athens axis have established an exchange of technology, Darwinist creations for Clanker technology.

The victors haven’t had it easy either. Britain and France have patched up their relations with Austria-Hungary, investing heavily in their new ally. Aleksander, not unlike his father, feels that his empire needs to reform in order to ensure long-term survival. Cis-Leithania has become a federalist state, with several provinces having autonomous regions with a large amount of a certain ethnic minority- for example, Bohemia and Moravia are both federal provinces, though the German-majority areas are autonomous within them. Elsewhere, Galicia-Lodomeria has been divided into two provinces- the Polish-majority Krakow and the Ukrainian-majority Galicia. Croatia (which includes Dalmatia and Bosnia) is an autonomous part of Hungary.

Similarly to the Axis powers, Austria, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire have been exchanging Clanker technology with the Darwinist powers of Britain, France and Romania, and later with Montenegro and Albania, which joined the alliance in fear of Greece and Serbia.

In Asia, Japan feels left out. Having made only minor gains in the region, it still desires more land, more empire. China, now in a delicate balance, fears for its safety. Meanwhile, both sides are being courted by the other- Japan, despite its previous alliance with Britain and its animosity towards Russia, is leaning towards the Axis. Similarly, despite China’s hatred of Russia and annoyance about mistreatment under the Allies, it is leaning towards the latter. However, both are amenable to change.

Now the year in 1936. Each of the various major powers are no longer simply Darwinist or Clanker; at best, they are only mostly one or the other- only Japan is really properly Darwinist by now. Britain, France, Austria, Germany, Italy, Russia, and the Ottoman Empire have all formed a balance between the two, leading to Clanker technology augmented with Darwinist components, and Darwinist creations augmented with Clanker technology – basically, there are a whole lot of genetically engineered cyborg things around…

However, there is one other matter to consider. Advances in physics have shown the power of the atom, something each major power is interested in pursuing.

United Java ?

UNITED JAVA ???

UNITED JAVA IN A BALKANIZED INDONESIA ??!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Balinese are much closer related to Javanese than the Sundanese !!

Even the Javanese themselves are disunited. Central Java is basically the "West Java" while ideologically Javanese are divided into Orthodox-Muslim north and Abangan-South. Let alone all the petty localisms and sh**ts !!
A United Javanese state is possible, but certainly not a unitary one ;)
But Madura has a terrible soil, so they can be an autonomous part of the Federation :D

Oh wait, in the world where Papua is united, you SPLIT TIMOR ISLAND ??!!! D:

Your divisions of Sulawesi and Kalimantan are also not complicated enough ;) Where's the Christian Manado Minahasan Republic ? Where's the Muslim Gorontalo Minahasan one ? They should be bitter enemies !! Not to mention Central Sulawesi which should have a real deal of Islam VS Christian tensions....

Also, why not a restored Lan Fang versus Malay-Dayak alliance in West Kalimantan ? :D

Oh, and won't also be enough without Balinese set up a Kaharingan state as a protectorate....:cool::cool:

You still have a long way to go....

Note : Makassars are the ones in the area of Makassar city. They possess a great deal of Malay cultural aspects and genes, for indeed it was (and still is) the most important trade hub in the island. Such set them up rather distant from the rest of the Bugis people, themselves are very diverse.

Oh, and one more thing, BATAK REPUBLIC BE WHERE ?? D: D: D:
