@Sregan: have PMed you corrections

What, that's the most plausible part of Susano's map! It's even in the original Texas annexation declaration!

and

However, Susano's reform could have problems elsewhere...

and I don't think there's any provision for merging parts of two existing states into a new one, although there is the State of Jefferson as at least an attempted precedent I suppose.

Depends when his POD is, doesn't it?

I doubt many of you remeber this, but a while ago I posted a map of European Settlement of the Americas in a universe where Columbus never sailed to the Americas. This is it's sequel. Not as good, but a nice way for me to blow off steam.

The world is peaceful. The old Empires have died, and the fires of Revolution that brought them down is now nothing but cinders. Although Representatives of the Radicals and Sacntioners may shout and rant in the World Council in Paris, most people just get on with their life in a burgeoning time of prosperity. The world is dreaming of getting to the moon, and the first mammal has been sent into space by the Bharatavarsa, eager to prove themselves a real power. In the greatest Rresearch centers of the world from Soglasnye (OTL Seattle), to Kumasi, and all the way to Peyking, scientists have set themselves to splitting the atom to power the world, to destroying malaria and polio, to helping the world in all it's facets.

Without Columbus, the Americas were discovered gradually from 1500 onwards. Portugal discovered South America (and named it Cabralia), while Cod fishermen found North America (naming it Baccalieu). Without the gold and silver of the New World, and it's pull on the imagination, the Europeans of ATL never pulled ahead of the rest of Eurasia by so much. The Ottoman Empire, China, and the Mughals were always competitive. The Europeans never penetrated very far until after the 1800s. Of these, the Russians got the farthest, reaching all the way to Mexico and the the Great Plains, along with Britain, which took much of the Great Lakes and Mexico (or Meshico in this world).

Spain never conquered the Americas, and instead turned it's attention Southwards to Africa. Stopped by the ottomans in Tunisia, they burned across the Sahara, pinching West Africa with the other powers along the Coast. They're reign was brief, but managed to tie in West Africa with Europe. With no slave trade, there being few plantations beyond the little ones in Brazil, the continent did not have to give up so many of it's peoples is so violent and destructive an act. ATL's Africa was never colonized as OTL's was, and throughout Africa, from Ashanti to Kongo, the continent were allowed to flourish. Today West Africa may not be quite as rich as Europe, but they're certainly rich enough to be very annoyed when you remind them of this, and the rest of Africa is much better off then our World's in comparison to Europe.

The great Empires of this world fell around 1900, after never penetrating as far or being as stable as ours. Even China, with over 2000 years of imperialism under it's belt was forced to give up it's most recent gains from Tibet to Hsin Chiang (Xinjiang). The only Empire to sort of pull out was the Russian empire. Stretching from Poland to Mongolia and all the way across to the Allied States on the Mississippi, it was the largest Empire in world history. Still is, some might say. Yet, it was never very stable. faced with Revolutionary activity from within, led by nationalist and radical groups, and from pressure without, by the Radical states on the Borders, the Empire was near dissolution. Other forces stepped in to save it however, mostly the orthodox church. Brought with the early trappers and explorers, the Church had grown to dominate Christianity throughout the Empire and beyond, deep into china, and throughout North America. The church had saved the First Rome, and the Second, and by the end it was forced to save the Third. Bit's of the Empire were lost, and the Empire was split up into autonomous bits, but they all remained united with One Tsar, One Church, One Language.

The collapse of the other Empire led to the rise of the Radical states, a group united by nothing other then the desire for Change. This might mean socialism, like in the People's State of the Netherlands; or a return to a previous era without Eurasian influence, like in the Incan Empire (never conquered by Europeans); or simply despotism hidden under revolution, but they all wanted change. They had their greatest success in India where the Bharatavarsa (a union of Indian Powers) waged war throughout the Subcontinent, forced the Europeans to the coast, and finally conquered Tibet and Burma. The Radical powers grew and expanded throughout the last century, but by now they've mellowed. Now the only thing Radical about them is how badly they want to get rich.

The opposing side, the old Empires and their allies, faced with this onslaught, dug in their heels. Refusing to even recognize the revolutionary states as real nations, they ended up being called the "Sanctioned" powers. Now of course, they talk to the Radical Powers, but the fiction remains. At the World Council, the Radical powers are called "non-governmental representatives" and it is a continuing source of international debacles and humor when things get mixed up.

Besides Russia and China, the main Sanctioned powers are the Latin Europe federation, made of the remnants of the Portuguese, French, Spanish, and some italian empires. It's more like the Commonwealth then anything, with free(er) trade and open(er, if you're too dark). The North Atlantic Germanic union is made from the various Germanic states, much weaker then in our world (other then Meshico and New England, the British never really got their act together, the Hapsburgs in Austria fell early on, and the Germans never united, leaving France, Spain, and russia to lead the way for Europe), and is more an international defense union against the Radical states in their midst then anything else. The West African Sphere is a lot like OTL's EU, but more centralized and a bit more prickly about their international power.

Technologically this world is far behind us, just beginning to experiment with Radiation and Space, and their understanding of Biology is even further behind. They're rather better at applied chemistry, and have done some rather wonderful things with plastics, but it isn't as rich or populous as our world, not by far. Yet it's far more hopeful, with the World at peace for more then 50 years since the Great War, and science and technology seem to get better everyday.

I like the use of an alternative transliteration system for Chinese. In my own TL, although one technically exists, I almost always "translate" it into pinyin in the main text just to keep track of place names...

Nice. Is that an independent Australian aborigine state I spot in north Australia?

Bruce
Sort of. It's mostly Native Aboriginals, but they were contacted by Islamic traders in the 1700s along the North Coast and became mostly mixed Indonesian-Aboriginals, along with a lot of White Portuguese (It used to be the Portugese part of Australia) blood as well.

Year of Men and Cod? Does that mean New England has In Cod We Trust stamped on their currency? :D
No, but Baccalieu is a mutated form of French for Cod, as it was found by Cod Fishermen.

Great map Atom! What was number 9?
It's on the map, but out of order. It's Zilverstromen.

Well, I actually did it because I couldn't think of a real Chinese Dynasty name, so I made it as weird as possible to hide the fact it's Chinese-ish gibberish. ;)

After I have freaked out the Germans with my map of German subdivisions, now its time for the Americans! :D

I present to you the USA after extensive territorial reform!

Brilliant map Susano.

Very nice Atom.

From my 'Imperium Osmani' TL.

The Supranational organizations of the world;

While most of the worlds nations belong to supranational organizations these groups are not all equal in terms of integration.

African Union:
More or less like the OTL EU in around 2003 in terms of integration, has a common economy and currency and a developing common
political structure.

Asian Common Union:
Somewhat more integrated than the OTL EU, has a common economy and currency, common foreign policy and has a developing
common military.

East African Union:
Highly integrated, is essentially a single nation in everything but name and formality.

Eurasian Union:
Highly integrated, has a common economy and currency, common foreign policy, military, space organization and citizenship.
Is well on the way to federating.

European Confederation:
Less integrated than the OTL EU.
It has a common economy and most nations use the common currency (Italy and Lithuania don't), though in terms of political integration
it's taken a multi-speed approach with some nations choosing to be more integrated than others.

North American Community:
Somewhere between the OTL USAN and EU in the mid 90's.
It has a common economy and their are plans to introduce a common currency in the near future.

Scandinavian Union:
Highly integrated, though full federation is still a ways off.
It has a common economy and currency, a joint military and common foreign policy.

South African Community:
It's comparable to the OTL USAN, though further along in terms of economic integration.

South American Confederation:
Highly integrated and likely to fully federate some time in the late 2020's.
It has a common economy, currency, military, foreign policy and citizenship and has a good degree of political integration.

South Asian Union:
More or less similar at the same level as the OTL EU in terms of integration, though with less skeptics.

Union of South-East Asian Nations:
Comparable to the EU in the mid-90's.
It has a common economy, though a common currency is still a few years off, though it's on its way to creating a common military.

Non-Aligned:
Countries that have'nt joined any group.
These countries may be neutral or in the process of joining one.

Keep your nonsensical HRE divisions out of our land! We've already got gerrymandered electoral districts to confuse us, why would you do this?!
Actually, that is less HREesque, surely? I mean, look at NYC and Chicago, how I sensible united metropolitan regions there ;) The new broders in Indiana, Ohio and Texas are also based on metropolises and their surrounding land - in Texas you have a state centered on Dallas/FortWorth, one centered on Houstin, and one centered on Austin/San Antonio, for example! :p

Not sure that he will ever pay an interest for our Malay region, buddy. I mean, he doesn't even aware of the existence of the mighty Bugismen....

Actually, I am. I looked up how to divide up Indonesia for my alternate Shadowrun timeline :p (because in the real Shadowurn timeline they merely have Idonesia split by islands, which doesnt make much sense)
