Strangers on the Shore
As the tides wash upon the beaches of Mi'kma'ki, a young man walks by the coast. He's seen this coast for years. Same sand, same rocks, same floating log with white squares and chanting men that is getting closer.

Wait a minute. That's new. He watches as the strange object moved closer. He began to move backwards as it became clear what it was.

It was a canoe. A weird, elongated canoe with a piece of white textile that seemed to move it. The men aboard where different. They wore clothing that seemed quite messy. A clash of black and browns that made them seem almost monstrous. Their skin was also different. They seemed pale, as if drained of all blood and soul. But they moved. Moved with vigor and strength.

The Man bumps into tree. He yelps, causing one of the Pale Men to look up. His blue eyes stared at the man with a mix of confusion and worry.

As the Pale Canoe washes on shore, The Man begins to ready himself. He knew not of these people's intentions, nor did he want to find out. The Pale Men began to dismount the canoe, one of them speaking a weird language to another. He seems upset, angry almost. Yelling at the man with the same vigor as a parent disciplining a child. The Man also noticed something else. One of the men carried a weird knife that was long and shiny. It drew his curiosity as they dumped other stuff off the vessel.

Suddenly, his focus shifts as one of the pale men walked up to him. He stared the man, looking at his stance. Then, he laughs. He says something to the others, in a language that the man never heard before. The Pale Man turns back and extends his hand out to him. The Man looked at it as the Pale Man seemed to expect something from him. He slowly grabbed his hand and suddenly his arm was violently shaken by the Pale Man.

He let go as the Pale Man laughed. The Man walked back to his people and began to talk with them.

The Mi'kmaw Man looked at his hand as the men set up a fire.

The Man walked back to his village, making note to notify his people of the strangers on the shore.

The Shiny Blade
It's been a week since he's been to the shore, a week since he saw those men. He tried to tell his tribe about the Pale Men but he was called mad. Afterall, how could someone that pale be alive. He was frustrated, he needed to prove to his people that they're real.

As he stirred in his bedstead, an idea came to his mind.

The Shiny Knife. It was so different from the ones he'd seen or used. It looked sharp and heavy, completely alien to him. And maybe alien to his tribe. An idea formed in his mind. If he can convince the newcomers to give him their knife, maybe it could the chief to send troops or delegates or something. If he can, maybe he can bring one of them with them.

As dawn broke, he began to gather some berries and knives in a basket to trade with the pale men. It wasn't a lot but it was enough for the few people who came to snack on. As he walked towards the shore, he began to hear the sounds of people talking. It sound like more people had arrived. He feels like an idiot for only getting this much berries but he was on a mission. As he passed a tree, he finally saw what has become of the coast.

Several trees had been chopped to make way for large huts that seemed incomplete, another area near the river had been tilled to make way for crops, and their was more people. Not just men but also women and children. It seemed like they where making a village here. As he walked around with his goods, he got stares from the people. It was odd and frankly intimidating.

As he walked by a weird building, he smelled something in the air. It smelt like blood. He wanted to ignore the smell but curiosity got the better of him. He walked over to the hut and peered in, expecting something gruesome. Instead, it was two men surround by four smoking mounds. Nearby them, their is a pile of rocks that looked like mud. As he stared, he saw one of the men grab a weird clam looking tool and began to do something to the mound. He couldn't get a good look but it seemed to make the mound bellow more smoke from the top.

Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He yelps as he turns to see the man he saw last week. Despite his clothing being more lighter, he could tell it was the same man. Acting quickly, he present the basket to the man. The looked through it and his eye glowed as he saw the berries. He turned to a group of people that had gathered and said something in an excited tone. It caused the people to celebrate but he knew not why. As they cheered, he heard "Veen" being repeated. Is that what they call the berries. The Pale Man handed the basket to one of the people before turning and shaking the young man's hand again. He noticed the man had one of the shiny knives on his hip.

He pointed at it, trying his best to ask what it is. After a bit, the pale man realized what he was pointing at. He unsheathed and showed it to the young man. "Sverd" The man said.

"S-Sv-Sverd" The man parroted, pointing at it to insinuate that this is what the long knife is called. The Pale Man nodded and positioned it for the young to hold. He grabbed the hilt before the pale man let go. Almost immediately, the weight of the sverd caused him dropped to sharp end on the floor. It missed the pale mans feet. Despite this, he just laughed as he watched the young man try hold it up.

After a while, he was able to hold it up. He heard the pale man clap as he stared at the blade with pride.

What was the status of the handshake five centuries ago?
Well yes and no. I did research to see what needed to change for a better end. It turns out it was a combination of both inferior technology and immune systems. For this to work, I had to make a bit of a change to the last part. I'll cover how they natives became immune to old world diseases in the far future. As for the handshake, it was sign of greetings or thank you for the Vikings. But it had no meaning to the young man, it was just a weird experience.

The Spread of Jern and The Death of an Explorer
A month passes. The Mi'kmaq and The Pale Men, or Ostmen as they called themselves, became close allies. It took some time as both found their appearances off but it was worth it. The Pale Man met with the Chief and they struck up a deal. If their people aid with building their new settlement, then they would teach the Mi'kmaq about the Sverds and more. The construction was grueling and took more than what they where use to but they got some of their homes done.

The first thing they taught them was this drink called Vin. It took about a week but it came out perfect. After a sip, the tribe was hooked and soon began to pick more berries. It got to the point that the Ostmen needed to help with planting more.

The next thing they them was the material that the sverds were made called Jern. They made a small mound out of earth and clay before showing them the Jern in it's natural state. It didn't look impressive nor shiny but the Ostmen promised it would be soon. They took some charcoal and the raw jern and put it on top of the mound. It around 10 hours but they finally had Jern.

The Ostmen then forged it into a Sverd. It wasn't as sharp as the one the young man held but it was just as heavy as he remembered it.

Over the days, they made other tools with the Jern. Jern Axes, Jern Armor, Jern-tipped Arrows, and Jern and Wood Shields. In the matter of a month, The Mi'kmaq went from using flint to smelting the valuable metal. Of course, it wouldn't be long before other tribes learned about the metal. It began to spread and soon other tribes began advance in ways of technology. Spots where Jern can be easily found or mined became battlegrounds. Tribes soon became towns, some even began to take over other tribes to create more towns.

Over the years, empires began to form. By 1492, both the Mi'kmaq and the Ostmen where absorbed by the Cree Empire. The Cree where just one of three big players in the continents. The other two was the conquering Aztecs and the Defensive Inca. The Aztecs took to the metal well after the Toltecs fell. They used it force other tribes and towns into their ever-growing mass. They even dissolved the once powerful Maya.

The Inca took the longest to receive the knowledge but they soon began to take off. They expanded past the mountains and descended across the lower continent. Soon they began to exchange blows with the Aztecs, creating a rivalry similar to England and France. Separating the Cree from the Aztec is a massive battleground of ever-growing territories of smaller kingdoms.

The Islands between the two continents unified to protect themselves from the Aztecs, fortifying each island to protect themselves.

One day, an archer on one of these islands saw a weird thing out at sea. He panicked until he realized he was facing the opposite way from where the Aztecs usually are. Still, he didn't chance it and sounded the alarm.

One of Three ships landed ashore. Voices began to celebrate their arrival. Soon, after two other ships landed, everyone left to explore this land. One these men moved ahead of the crew and turned. "My Faithful Crew, we have arrived to India" He said. His crew cheered as he turn to face the woods. "Do you smell that?" He asked "That is the smell of victory for Spai-".

Before he could finish, a an arrow with a metal tip pierces his skull. He falls to the ground, dead. His crew gasps as more arrows began to fly from the forest. Soon, despite the superior weapons, the crew had been surrounded.

The men of Christopher Columbus had been captured and enslaved. The Archer noticed the ships and wondered if they could ever build ships like these.

Q'usñi Atipay/A Grande Derrota
In 1499, a Portuguese trading ship disappeared from West Africa. From what locals say, there was a storm that moved towards the west. It's likely that the ship was caught in the storm and either sunk or sent out to sea, suffering the same fate as Columbus. Of course, this wasn't enough and Portugal sent recon ships to find any scrap. One ship, captained by Pedro Cabral, soon went further west until it struck land. Of course, it wasn't long before they realized the trip was to short to land in Asia. Their doubts were confirmed when a small group of soldiers with weird iron weapons and crossbows began to attack them.

Unlike the trade ship, they'd came prepared for battle and it soon got them a victory with only a single death and several injuries. They established a small camp before sending back an envoy about the new land.

The King sent armies down to help lay claim to this land. They kept this a secret from Spain so they wouldn't try to take their treasure. However, this fight would take a turn. Despite having countless victories, the amount of blood spilled and weapons made soon took a toll on the Iberian Empire. Once word spread in the empire about where the soldiers are going, people began to riot. This wasn't Africa nor Asia, so why should they bother with taking this land.

The weapons also became a problem as the cost of the metal used for them soon began to rise.

Despite protests from Cabral, The King decided to make peace with the Natives. It took some time to learn the bare basics of the Inca's language but it would end with a meeting with between Cabral and Sapa Inca Huayna Capac.

The meeting was held for a nearly a week. It was a back and forth mess of proposals and rejections, each side doing equal amounts of both. Finally, much to the chagrin of Cabral, the deal was signed. The Inca would give the Portuguese gold and exotic resources in exchange for guns, gunpowder, training, and all the ins and outs of needed to use them. The deal caused cheers across the empire as, with these shield piercing weapons, they could finally push back the Aztecs. This side of the story is known as "Q'usñi Atipay" or "Smoke Victory".

The Portuguese had another name for the war. "A Grande Derrota" or "The Great Defeat". Even if the public cared little about this land, several nobles did. They believed it would've given them a resource edge against Spain. Eventually, Portugal will learn that they did have an edge. But will come much, much later. For now, they began to fulfill the promise and began to ship guns to the Inca.

The Inca soon began to learn how to use the weapons. It took about a few months but it was enough time to for them give the drop on the Aztecs. The Battle of Copan was the first of many victories for the Incas and the first of many for the Aztecs. Soon, they began to push the Aztecs out of once-Mayan land, bringing a great dishonor to the Aztecs.

Soon, however, The Aztecs will get an envoy from another Iberian Empire. When Cabral returned to Portugal, his anger for such a defeat made him leave for Spain. He told the king of Spain about the new lands, the Inca, and how Portugal was trading with them for gold. This peaked the king and he made him give up the name of the nearest Empire to the Inca.

The Great Battlefield
Once word spread across Europe about his land, ships sailed to attempted to land to create colonies. It ended in failure as most of the destinations where heavily fortified and ready for combat. All but one.

When guns where imported to the Aztecs via Spain, several got into the hands of mercenaries belonging to the Northern Battlegrounds. Once their contracts where up, they took the guns and their secrets home. Soon, like a plague, guns spread across the continent. It became a killing blow for several small kingdoms that, in the past, had held their ground.

One of these places was the Cree. For years, they had ruled over several smaller tribes and towns. The many peoples who lived underneath the Cree lived under intense prejudice. Men and Women where forced to join in battle while children where made to create weapons and tools.

It was a hell that seemed to nearly be endless. Nearly. One of the lands they took was the Seneca. They are the southernmost tribe in the empire's mass. When guns began to sweep across the continent, they got it before the Cree. Already in talks with tribes like Cayuga and Onondaga about rebellion, they took to arming their allies and starting a revolution. They first united tribes of the Haudenosaunee people, forming a make-shift country, before heading straight for the throats of the Cree. By the end of the decade, the once mighty Cree Empire collapsed.

The newly freed tribes soon joined up with the Haudenosaunee to protect themselves from the south. Some, like the Inuit and Chinook peoples stood their grounds and stayed independent.

During the fallout, a ship lands on the east coast. The captain was man named Francis Drake.

Seeing this opportunity, they claimed the land for king and country. It seemed like a dream come true, claiming land in such prime real-estate. That was soon proven false when the scouts learned about where they are. In another time, this place was known as New York. Here, it was known as The Spear's Tie. Why? This place was known for bloodshed.

Small kingdoms would rise, only to be torn apart by enemies. The Tip of the Spear, known as Maine in another world, was pseudo claimed by the Cree. Despite failing to set up any towns in the tip, they guarded it to make sure those who want to lay claim fall before the Cree's blades.

Drake, wanting to learn more about this part of the continent, took prisoner a small band of warrior. Through violent interrogation, they soon learned about the big dog of the land. Named by the people, Powhatans as they called themselves, as the River Monsters. Others named them the Kings of the Water, Demons of the Sands, The Iron Claws of Death, and even known by the Aztecs as Cipactli's Spawn. Their true name, however, is Mississippi.

Hearing how such a great nation gave these warriors such fear, Drake knew that he got his ally.
