One trend that develops in the 2nd and 1st centuries Bc, it seems to me, is tat we see trends towards the development of nationalism; the Achaean Federation, for instance, and Macedon. Even the Italian peninsula was IMO developing into some sort of nation (witness te Italian wars) before Rome went and developed into an empire stretching across the Known World.

This is a bit vague, but can anyone else imagine a world with an Iberian Kingdom similar to Sertorius's Empire, an Italian Federation, an Achaean League covering Greece, as well as a Ptolemaic dynasty that went native?

By the Italian Federation...I do believe you mean the Latin Leauge(originally a confederation of about 30 villages and tribes in the neighbourhood of ancient Rome that joined for mutual protection and defense against hostile adjoining communities. The city of Alba Longa, the leader of this federation, was the site of religious ceremonies, which included worship of Jupiter on the Alban Mount. It was also the place where league members…) But Hispanina could revolt against Carthage, and establish an Republic. The other cities of the Latin Leauge keep tabs on Rome Growth and Power and conquer The Etruscans, Samnites, and Italotes(Greek Italians). The Achean Lauge allies with Macedon and together they expand to the Danube.

Increassing power forces the celts to Confederate, creating an new Confederated Europ....Although Im'not so sure it would last very long
