America against Rev. France

Inspired by the Federalist AH on CTT, what if the Americans went to war against the French during the Revolutionary/Napoleonic wars? This would effectively mean we're allied with Britain (perhaps we get something for our entry to the wars, as in that AH) and would avoid 1812.

However, if America starts gobbling up the French and Spanish colonies, wouldn't the Brits get nervous? This might dissuade them from giving us any of the concessions mentioned on CTT.

Britain wouldn't care, so long as we let them in to have some of the helpings. Better the americans, who they can at least deal with, than the French or spanish.

The can control us now (then), but what about when we span the overwhelming majority of the American continents?
