Another CGApunk 2000 election.

The Constitutional and New Age Alliance are a group of semi-conservatives. They're liberal in many ways, but do not support "cyberocracy" (digital voting, AI rights, etc.), and are pretty literal with their interpretation of the Constitution as it is in November 2000. From the first amendment to the 26th. They oppose the suppression of free speech, hence why there are more Kyfas and Menshies[1] in the states of Pennsylvania and New York than there are in the South. They are the primary sponsor of most mid-to-late 20th century amendments in the United States; starting from the 18th Amendment (which empowered female voters).

The 19th Amendment, which moved the start of the Presidential term to January 1st at 12:00 hours, was directly inspired by the CNAA's move to "reduce government wastefulness by removing most of the Lame Duck presidency"; the 20th Amendment, which established the District of Columbia as having the same number of electoral-votes as the smallest populated state (Wyoming as of 2000; so D.C. has 3); the 21st Amendment, which eliminated all forms of poll taxes and literacy tests for voting (which was deemed as "unconstitutional and wasteful" by the CNAA), the 22nd Amendment, which addressed the Presidential Line of Succession following the assassination of President Rowlett in 1954.

The 23rd Amendment, which prohibited the denial of voting rights to American citizens over the legal voting age (21); the 24th Amendment (which made it obligatory that the budget be balanced without overspending); the 25th Amendment, which forbade Congress to pass constitutional amendments that countermanded Supreme Court decisions ("the Supreme Court should be the last say of the Constitution's legalities. To override their decision is, in itself, unconstitutional.")

The 26th Amendment, ratified in 1986, formally remitted artificial persons and intelligence from U.S. citizenship, aimed directly at growing AI systems and androids. This also applied to humans borne from invitrofertilization, despite the attempts by IVF advocates to get this removed.

Their candidate is Vice President William F. Davis, who served under President John Orrin Wilson, the three-term President from Connecticut (1988, 1992, 1996). Davis' Veep choicer is Governor John Thompson of New York, whom lead a raid against Synth Rights Activists during his tenure as Governor in the early 1990s.

Aligned against them are the Conservative Coalition for Tradition, Law and Order, whom are even more vehemently technophobic that they advocate the dismantling and abolition of computer systems and artificial intelligence. They're immensely popular in the rural South, whose economy has been damaged by foreign autofarms which can outproduce them 10:1 in most cases. The CCTLO is also, in a minor note, vehemently racist, preferring to keep all races segregated, which they have succeeded in doing so, as the CNAA has supported them in refusing liberal attempts to have Plessy v. Ferguson overturned. The CNAA's official line is "the SCOTUS has ruled. Separate but equal." -- as such, the South is still heavily affected by electoral manufacturing, and white oppression.

And the third party, which is popular in the North amongst leftists and anti-Constitutionalists, is the Alliance of Farmers, Labor and Cybercrats. They are a militant party whom have agitated against Washington's authoritarianism since their founding in the 1950s. The CCTLO and CNAA have not managed to get them banned yet, due to their strong support amongst the northern industrial states, and the northern rural states. They typically make a strong third in Presidential elections, but have won numerous Gubernatorial, Senate and House seats in many areas--even in CNAA or CCTLO-dominated states.

The 2000 Election has concluded in a deadlocked Electoral College. With tensions and mutual dislike between the three-parties at an all time high, there will need to be compromise on whom will be President until 2005, and with the two leaders of the two major parties hating each other, Governor Newcastle seems fit to hold all the cards in these negotiations...

2095 U.S. Presidential Election
Zellie Mallott (Democratic Progressive): 47.1%
Dylan Estevez (Labor): 43.8%

Praise-God Laverne (Faith): 7.2%

Cascadia: Nobody figured out how the hell to poll the Na'vi yet as they seem pretty uninterested in anything to do with electoral politics. Canada struggles with it as well.

aaaaaaaaaa
Puritanism is back in New England as an austere way of life dominates the region, fatalism becomes the default way of thinking and Lovecraftian monsters eating people are treated as God's punishment for Our sins. Blame the Devil for unleashing zombies in the 2050s, it led to a new wave of religious fundamentalism.

...Well, gosh.
Not 100% sure of the pattern for Labor - they win South Carolina but not Illinois? That seems interesting.
