Alternate Air Force roundels and other symbols

Aw, no comments about my insignias?

I like them, though the first one is a bit too complicated in the colour department.

This belongs in Alternate History Books and Media.

My inner sence for order agrees with you : "Yes, all AH media threads should go neatly in the media forum."

But the reality is far harsher and they're posted willy-nilly over the entire board. I've been trying to muster up enough confidence to ask for at least some of them to be moved to the Media forum, but I'm not sure whether I have the determination or courage. Asking for things to get moved is a tiresome process.

The air roundel of the Grand Duchy of Lemuria, from the Countries of An Alternate World 2* map game.

From an ATL where < insert reason > happened resulting in the air force of the former british dominions not adopting roundels reminiscent of the RAF roundel.

Ironically, the red-white-red Canadian roundel WAS trialled by the Canadian Armed Forces (or the RCAF; I can't remember which) sometime back in the 1960s just after the Maple Leaf Flag was introduced.

Yeah, the Tarrantry stuff was really cool. There were also ship designs, correct?

Regarding aircraft insignia in general, I think many people propose designs that are far too colorful and complicated. To be useful, insignia need to be simple and easily recognized at a distance (today, of course, they are probably unnecessary holdovers that are kept only for tradition's sake in horrible low visibility versions).

All of the project (sans a few pictures) is still here, almost completely unchanged since the last updates 7 years ago.

Yes, that includes overviews of ship specs and drawings of the ship classes themselves (though one or two of those drawings have vanished and can't be retrieved anymore). I have everything of it backed up as text and image documents as well, and I've sent copies of those files to Grey Wolf too, already a few months ago. So, even if the Wayback machine will experience problems from time to time or eventually lose that archive, I still have it archived on my hard drives and GW has as well.

I'm planning to finish cleaning up the aforementioned ship profile art (because they are old kitbashed gif pictures and all need serious cleaning to look better). Once I'm finished, I'll be posting the images in the alternate military pictures thread.

From a world where the US Air Force never separated from the US Army, and somehow the US Army's logo changed to what it is today:

Roundels during Sino-Soviet War, 1986.
We assume the Aircraft painting to be grey.
The Japanese Volunteers Corps (Land and Aerial) in question were helping China since the beginning of the war.
When the Soviet invaded Japan as well (this invasion progressed far better than the invasion of China, and the entire country was occupied within a matter of days), the Volunteer's Corp became Japanese Restoration Army(日本光復軍), "Army (軍)" means armed forces.

Is this from a full TL of yours or just a one-shot?

Either way, it's very cool.

It's not my TL.

It's a book by the Japanese Author Gunji Kenkyū Gurūpu (久留島龍夫), called Soviet Forces Landing in Japan (《ソ連軍日本上陸》,translated as 《苏军在日本登陆》 in China).

The original book stopped at Soviets taking Tokyo, I simply made up the Japanese, Chinese and Manchurian Socialist Republics.

Second Great War.
Let's make all OTL French allies on the German side, and all OTL German allies on the French side, and Second Great War an even greater stalemate.

All French-Allied Roundels are OTL post war roundels, since the allies won the war in OTL.

Kind of wonder what all world's roundels would be like if Germany wins the WWII.

That is really cool, you have really put thought into how different alliances would affect the evolution of roundels to avoid friendly fire, like in OTL.

Those look great; particularly Britain's and the Netherland's.
Thank You!

Yes. I'm only afraid that countries would not do away with original roundel that easily.

For instance, Romania's Pre-WWII insignia was this
200px-Roundel_of_the_Romanian_Air_Force.svg.png

and during WWII, they changed their roundel to this, in lin ewith the Germans:
200px-Roundel_of_the_Romanian_Air_Force%2C_1941-1944.svg.png

But the original roundel was still in the center.

However, we assume TTL's Second Great War to be much WWI-like, even the air battles are a slow war of attrition, which makes roundel of the same colour more important than traditions and history.

Here is another version of the US roundel: the Sheriff's Star.

Those who watch western movies would agree that the Sheriff's Badge is an indisputable symbol of the US.
