Nuremburg had nothing to do with it. I was in high school and college in the 60's and no one mentioned Nuremburg (and I was a history major). Yes birth control was an important part but, but 2 other things to consider. What if no Sputnik. The counterculture was basically a coworking college student thing, working young adults didn;t have the time and just stuck to drinking and then later weed but not the entire CC thing. Sputnik and the math & science gap really helped drive the push to get more students into college than may otherwise have been the case. The expansion of college access and the arrival of the boomers hit circa 1964. Another thing to consider is no British Invasion. At the time the Beatles and their ilk were considered downright subversive by most American parents. Of course the components of CC had already been there but the Beats of the 50's were looked on as eccentrics. So when sex, drugs, rock and roll, and a real war all arrived at the same time the boomers swarmed onto expanded colleges that were ill-equipped to handle the swarm, Boom Boom Kaboom! And away we go!
