Can a way be found for Britain to maintain 1953 Standards of Personal morality, patriotism, stoicism and religious adherence (at least going through the motions) and yet still be a modern liberal democracy not too far out of step with the rest of the developed world?

No, because those standards of 'Personal morality, patriotism, stoicism and religious adherence' were always illutionary to an extent, one need only look at the amount of historic sex-scandal cases in recent times. Plus 'Personal morality', how do you objectively measure the subjective notion of 'morality'? And what scale of standard would you possible use?

Criminalizing abortion, the imprisonment or torture of homosexual men and stringent divorce laws combined with a societal worldview that excuses domestic violence would make Britain a pariah in the developed world.
