Shannon: I have the situation under control

Puzzingly, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Jack Shannon (USAF) made an odd remark. Outside the White House, he informed a group of reporters that "I have the situation under control. Until the Vice President arrives and we reestablish contact with the President, I have taken direct control in dealing with the situation as it pertains to the Golan Heights. Thank you."

He then entered the building, presumably to command the scene from the Situation Room. The statement was made prior to the Vice President's arrival at approximately 11:30 EST, but does not match protocol. Statements from reporters currently locked in the White House (it will remain under lockdown until later this evening) state that this must be a misunderstanding of General Shannon's remarks.

Syrian President confirms attack on Jerusalem

On Al-Jazeera, Syrian President Jamil al-Hassan has confirmed the attack on dignitaries at the swearing-in of Jerusalem President Ben Sawahili. According to al-Hassan:

The Syrian people have not attacked the Zionists. The Palestinian people have. Palestinians who were more than eager to take back their homeland. Their *entire* homeland. We payed for their training, we planned their actions. But they took out the foreign leaders, not us. And we attack them [Israelis] at their stolen border. We urge all Palestinians to continue the uprising started by your five brethren.

al-Hassan's message seems to have been taped and was delivered to Al-Jazeera within the hour.

Is Israel gonna go nuclear on Syria! That would be a cool story. Also would like to know where West Wing Universe Corporations Part 1 and 2 are!

Part 1 (PetroShareef, Hollis Computing Group, Blog.com) I disagree with the Hollis Computing Group, because it disregards my previous statements that Hollis got rich off the privatization and earlier expansion of Verizon, thus explaining a continuity error and making him different enough from the presumed Jobs/Gates style of getting uber-rich.

Joint Address made by Palestinian, Israeli, and Jerusalemite Leaders

Prime Ministers Umar Hastan of Palestine, Efraim Zahavy of Israel, and President Ben Sawihii of Jerusalem all appeared at an early morning conference via split screen. This was the first true confirmation of Sawihii's survival, having suffered minor injuries despite being shot at by one of the terrorists.

The three leaders addressed their nations and the world, stating "Now is the test to stand up for peace" (Zahavy) and "the Syrian God-King has no right to dictate what our people should do" (Hastan). Sawihii had what appeared to be a treated broken arm, reportedly from the fall when he was saved from gunfire.

Andrew Carter and William Morgan have been taken to Cyprus

The BBC understands that the Prime-Minister and the Foreign Secretary have been airlifted out of Jerusaleum and have been taken first to the British Sovereign Base area of Akrotiri on Cyprus. It is understood that they had spent the night at the British Embassay in Jerusaleum under protection of the Swiss Guards. We believe that SAS troops landed at the Embassay to take the two men out along with several travelling officals and key Embassay staff.

Deputy Prime-Minister Richard Sameuls will make a statement to the House of Commons later today.

Vice-President Clark makes statement

Vice-President Liz Clark has made a brief statement to the White-House Press corps in the last few minutes.

She appeared calm but firm "My thoughts are with those that have lost their lives in this cowardly attack on men of peace". She said "I have spoken to President Walken and Secretary Vinick, in a conference call with the National Secruity Council". She condemed the Syrian attack on Isreal, and called on the Syrians to withdraw from the Golan Heights.

She was asked if Congress would declare war on Syria, and if that had been discussed with the President. "We have discussed a number of responses, but what they are, I am not going to discuss with you".

She also confirmed that it was a Secret Service agent that tackled President Swaihilli to the ground as shots where fired at him.

It is believed President Walken and the American delegation will be returning once the situation in the City have been stablised.

'Don't Use Nukes,' says former VP

"Don't resort to nuclear weapons" was former Vice President Bob Russell's plea this morning on Morning Joe. Looking directly at the camera, the former Colorado Congressman stated, "It's an open secret that you have the capability, and as demonstrated in '79 and '04 are able to use it. But now is not the time. I am not asking for my country or your country, I'm asking for the fate of all mankind. Now is the time for diplomacy, not strength. Courage, not conviction. Honor, not ... incorrectness."

He had earlier explained to Joe Scarborough that he had learned of Israel's nuclear submarine-capability (which they emphatically deny) years before, and was fearful that Syria might push them into using it. "This is a crisis that is easy to solve," Russell said, "but only with a lot of hard work."

Arab League Issues Statement Against Syria, Calls Actions "A Clear Violation of the Standards of Conduct."

The Leage of Arab States, more informally known as the Arab League, issued a statement against Syria and President Jamil al-Hassan for their attack on the Presidential swearing-in ceremony of Ben Sawahili, which ended in the deaths of former British Prime Minister Ricky Meyer and former South African President Frederick Hymans.

The statement, released to the international press moments ago, called the attacks "a vicious and unprecedented attempt to destroy the peace accords, and destabilize the balance currently enjoyed in the region. This unprovoked assault is a clear violation of the standards of conduct of the international community, and it should be made clear that the Syrian government acted entirely alone in this mad endeavor."

Syria is a member of the Arab League, making this the first time that the League has ever condemned a member of their own in such a manner. Of the 22 members of the league, 19 signed the letter, with Libya and Iraq abstaining, and Syria obviously voting against.

Russian Foreign Minister Interview

The Jerusalem attack was one of the largest collections of foreign leaders in the 21st century. Three former American Presidents, the Pope, French President Giselle Trenier, and Russian President Valery Davydov. However according to rumors Davydov is losing favor with Defense Minister Chigorin, which prompted the Prime Minister of Russia Nikolai Ivanovich to also attend. While being holed up in the compound he gave a brief interview to Pravda.

translated from Russian
"I can tell you that I and President Davydov are in communication with Moscow, to determine a course of action. I am not certain what course will be taken but the fact that a whole row of offices has become a sort of embassy row inside the compound, I believe is an indicator that multiple nations will be willing to talk."

Further statements during the brief interview seem to indicate that at present, a great many of foreign leaders are taking refuge within the Russian Compound in Jerusalem.
