Nice, Goliath. A different sort of place, with some real problems but also some good points. I like it. Do you mean 45% of the US population works for the government, or 45% of the _employed_? The second seems more probable...

Quibble: why does all of east Africa go under the name of Tanzania? The name is a portmanteau of "Tanganyika" and "Zanzibar" when they were unified: it doesn't really work for a unified British east Africa.

I'd say Chinese probably would be bigger than Mongolian in the USSR: there really aren't that many Mongol-speakers.

Poland probably would be a bit bigger if the US were the ones to clear the Nazis out of the western USSR.

Japan is still under the US thumb? Oy. :p

Very impressive, Beedok. A lot of work there. What do the lighter and darker colors indicate in Algeria and Bonaire? Provinces vs. Territories?

Lithuania remains separate from Poland, defeats the Teutonic Knights and the Prussians, conquers the Crimean Khanate, and keeps Russia in check. Lithuania participates early on the colonization of the Americas, claiming much of northern Canada, which is used as a fur trading region as well as being host to three primary settler colonies. A later king, after taking a tour of western Europe, decides to declare himself Emperor of Lithuania and endevours to make the country a great naval power. He also sends an expedition to South America which ends up pulling a Leopold and claiming the watershed of the Orinoco, which reaps Lithuania great wealth from rubber cultivation.

Interesting! Although 1710 seems a bit early for Lithuania to push all the way across Canada to the Pacific. Are the Americas discovered earlier?

Since there is no union with Poland, does Lithuania turn to Eastern Orthodoxy instead? That would certainly strengthen their position as "rightful overlord" of the Russians/Belorussians/Ukrainians [1] in their territory.

[1] Terms not perhaps entirely applicable yet in 1710.

First off I'm still new to map & ATL making so this is just me trying to work out any problems I have. The PoD and back story is variable.

1. A communist state formed out of decolonisation of africa. West African Socialist Federation
2. European Federation
3. America annexed all of mexico after the mexican-american war, got more of oregon country
4. United states never bought it from them
5. Yes and No. WWII lasted longer and after defeating Japan in the Pacific in '45 they came into all this territory and while france wont be liberated for another three years they scooped them up and in 1980 they are protectorates.
6. That is the New Israel jewish home land. afetr a longer world war two I figured that Israel should be else were than the middle east. I read about it in Northwest australia but I had a problem in another map 30 years lader that had that central provence independent so i moved their home land th Alice springs.
7. I dont know... Maybe some old Danish colony.
8. Communist revolotion
9. It never left
10. Land divition of post war japan. Japan itself was an american occupation territory until 1959.
11. Different colonies in Libya.

More or less. Light ones are provinces, darker ones are Imperial Departments. That's true of all the Kingdoms, it's just France has no departments and the rest have no provinces (yet). The Philippines have proven to be good catholics who are willing to learn French so they've been lined up to be the first non settler provinces soonish. (If all goes to plan.)

Your Nebraska is too wide, your South Minnesota is too short, and I wonder whether your tall Idaho analogue on the west side of the Rockies would be its own state and not split between alt-Washington and alt-Columbia.

And I love the stupidly long Oklahoma panhandle, but it’s probably not realistic. :p

…and in 1980 they are protectorates.

If they’re protectorates–and not territories slated for statehood–they should be 1px white filled with light US color. I see you have Laos like that, so are Vietnam and Cambodia set for statehood?

No Great Power would be able to "Pull a Leopold" like Leopold II, as it requires not being a Great Power so that the ambitious "Leopold" can pretend it in the interest of the major Colonial States for it not to fall in the hands of the other Great Powers.

The fall of Socialist Britain into its 8 new republics.
Due to a brain fart the one on the right is the before picture. the years are 1993 and 1987, respectively.
1. England: the strongest and largest of the 8, experienced a smooth transition to democracy after all other republics left.
2. the Free German republic: the partition of Germany went a little differently after WW2, with communist countries playing a bigger role and therefore getting a bigger share. The German government still existed, but only to prevent any one of its occupiers from gaining complete control. No east-west Germany as OTL. declared independence in 1988, little the BSR could do.
3.Ireland: declared independence from BSR shortly after Germany. Seceded easily due to limited British influence.
4. Scotland: had a bit of trouble seceding due to mixed population in the south. area now under joint rule to keep ethnic tensions down. declared independence 1990.
5.North Ireland: seceded 1991, claims it is the real Irish government and is secretly ridding itself of its catholic population. Only country to remain socialist.
6. North Cornwall: formerly Cornwall and Brittany. Bloodiest war for independence due to attempted France/ English Partition. Neither countries recognize the country, with the USSR the only other country to not do so. seceded 1991. Ceasefire in 1993.
7.Wales: knowing the union was at its end, England and Wales parted ways in 1993. Wales still has a command economy, but free elections are held in a government similar to that of OTL England's.
8. South Scotland. Technically its own country, see Scotland for details.

You mean the non-settler colonies have no provinces yet, no? I would certainly expect Patagonia or Bonaire to get provinces before the Philippines...

Bruce

Gah! Das Kornishces Uberrecih!

Seriously, there's absolutely no reason to lump Devon and Somerset in with Cornwall, they're very distinct and the very idea of trans-Tamar political bodies is considered an affront by Cornish nationalists.

In fact, the only way I can see that coming about is to ensure that any attempts by Cornwall to secede fail because the overwhelmingly non-Cornish population (both in Devon and Somerset and also Cornwall itself really) outvote the nationalists (c.f. Tartarstan etc.)

Yes, mostly by others I meant the ones we hadn't discussed. Bonnair and Argentina were discussed. Patagonia just hasn't gotten enough settlement yet, and Paris wants to look like it isn't being (too) racist. They remain seriously worried about how to handle their Indias though.
