WIP of an ASB map I'm making. :D

Shall that be Morgenthau on steroids? Or is it beginning to go into Kaufmanist territory of "exterminate the Germans from the face of this Earth"? Maybe a Kaufman-directed occupation horribly failed?

OK, another I did for Krinsbez.

This is a world a few centuries after WWIII started due to Some Damned Stupid Thing in the 21st century Koreas. Most of today's nations are gone or changed almost beyond recognition, but new powers have arisen. The world's superpowers and lesser but still important Great Powers are joining forces, in spite of ideological and religious differences, to prevent global war from taking place again, now that technology has caught up and surpassed what it was when Doomsday struck. The alliance is referred to as the "nine brothers and seventeen sisters", and has created the Federation of Allied Nations, a more muscular UN-equivalent: the rest of the world can take it or lump it.

The Nine includes the Empire of the United States, an Anglo-Spanish fusion more Mexico than US founded by a Californian warlord and with an emperor elected from among the rulers of numerous sub-kingdoms: the American States Union, an alliance of scattered survivors in NE American and Caribbean state that grew into a real Power over generations of warfare with the fanatical Holy Red Army [1]; the Caliphate of Israel (the Jews and the Palestinians finally found common cause in _not_ being swallowed up by their more thoroughly screwed up neighbors; Islam and Judaism by this point have developed a weird symbiosis); the Alpine Confederation (the-Marxist-but-don't-call-us-Marxist Swiss overran everyone); and the former Nigeria-centered Coalition for African Reason, a neo-enlightenment project to warm the cockles of Mathuen's heart).

It also includes the League of New Lubavich (lots[2] of beards and Torahs and side-locks, never mind that it's holy founder probably wasn't actually Jewish), which understandably only just tolerates the Caliphate of Israel; the Meritocracy of Greater Punjab, which is a superpower mainly through the alliance of north subcontinental states it leads, which collectively form the largest economy on earth; the Chinese Repentant Republic, originally founded as a theological movement unifying people who wanted absolution for setting off the apocalypse, but which nowadays makes them (in the opinion of their neighbors) somewhat annoyingly self-righteous; and Lemuria Enterprises, before the war an extensive international sea-steading program which after avoiding being nuked managed to become self-supporting, "stranded space colony" style, which has evolved into a weird "corporate state" in which all citizens are also stockholders. [3]

The Nineteen are an equally diverse group, including democratically reforming dictatorships such the Aryan People's Union (Iranian nationalism went in odd directions after the Iranian state collapsed) or Bangalla/Greater Bengal, anarcho-capitalists like the south Brazilians or the even wackier Australians, constitutional monarchies such as Java and the Philippines, "scientific" states such as the Great Lakes Technocracy (New Chicago is a Technological Wonderland) or the Mahgrebis, conventional republics such as the Confederation of Madras, the League of Norden, or the Vietnamese Hegemony, and such oddities as the Empire of Tucuman and it's veneration of "Roman" values or Espanian Continual Political Participation. And let's not forget the Mongol Khanate. Then there are the true oddballs, the East African Syndicate, the world's only real socialist one-party state, and the immense corporate entity known as McDuq enterprises, which were given a seat at the F.A.N. table because people much prefer that both be in the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in.

[1] It is often said True Believers can't be argued out of their beliefs, but can be converted to a new True Belief. After the post-war implosion, and the rather manifest failure of the Free Market to solve the problem, US southerners became in time as dedicated Communists as they had been dedicated anti-statists before, albeit with a Christian twist based on Christ being a humble carpenter with bad things to say about the rich: at it's peak the Holy Red Army's "Liberated territory" extended from eastern Montana to west Virginia. In the end, as Marxists like to say, they were brought down by their own Internal Contradictions.

[2] Lots: although the 20th and 21st centuries rather depopulated Russia, they've bounced back nicely since then, and being fruitful and multiplying has always been seen as a divine commandment among the neo-hassids, although of the late the women have become increasingly difficult about it.

[3] Some of which can neither be sold or given away, only inherited. The system has built-in incentives to make sure the leadership does not come to consider large portions of the population as redundant.

"ASB" doesn't mean "immune to criticism" though.

I don't understand.
PiratePartyist asked concrete questions about the historical background, whether it was a Morgenthau or a Kaufman-influenced set of events leading to the setting of the map.
I think that "ASB" implies that the setting is explicitly unrealistic, so detailed questions how it came to be might be not the best way to look at it.
EDIT: But I agree that it has a Kaufman-ish flair.

I don't see where you get "immune to criticism" from.
EDIT: Hey let me criticise the linked map on imgur: "Principality of Thuringer" is fun. "Thuringer Principality" would work, with Th. as a kind of adjective, but used in this way, I think every native German will think of this type of bratwurst first:

And inside Poland, a better name for "Elster" would probably be Łużyce.

nothing special, but to my knowledge, I don't think I've ever seen a Qbam of the hypothetical Finnish Democratic republic so here's one for your pleasure and use to the best of my ability.

gotta say that border... looks. unpleasant.

tried morphing the wiki map to fit the perspective the Qbam map uses and while I was able to get the pre war borders to match well enough to be accurate for all intents and purposes, it still looks just plain damn weird.

Yep! Also, I think the other Polish names should be (these are all historical):

Ülzen → Olszyna
Elbe → Łaba
Sudetenland → Sudety
Frankfurt → Słubice
Eberswalde-Wittenberg → Rudnicko-Biała Góra

Yeah, yeah. I was heavily inspired by that, but that's not the joke of the map. :p
The joke is that it presents the division of Poland like between FRG and GDR, but the Polish equivalent of FRG is on the territory of GDR from OTL? :p

Nope, unless it's related to the fact that Poland ends up with no historically Polish territory at all. Really good-looking map.

BTW, Independent Galicia? Did Spain lose a war against Portugal or something?

What I never understand is why in AH.com, independent Galicia always includes Ponferrada and half of Asturias

Maybe someone made a very free interpetation of Galicia's borders and everyone else copied it. The Catalan border suffers from the same.

Possibly because historical Gallician states have included those areas?

What, exactly, is your point? Spain has historicaly included Mexico City, Brussels and Milan, but if a map with a divergence in the 20th century showed those places as Spanish, the least one would expect is incredulity. That map clearly diverges in the 20th century, a time in which the Galician-ness of those areas is absolutely nil, to a point I can seriously see it being violently contested by the local population. Now, the Eo-Navia shire in Asturias, that could pass given that they're Galician-speaking. But in that map, the border goes enough beyond Eo-Navia that even calls to the gates of Oviedo. Go and tell all the people living there that they should switch their nationality from Spanish to Galician because of medieval borders or some shit.
