And for the missing link, Count Ivan Von Fersen, Jr., son of Count Ivan Von Fersen, Sr. and father of Count Richard Von Fersen. Ivan Von Fersen, Jr. was born in the Republic of Texas where his father was just getting into the oil industry. He moved with his family to South Africa in 1858, just a year prior to the outbreak of the █████ian War. Being the grandson of George Washington Von Fersen and funded by his increasingly wealthy father, Ivan, Jr. was in 1867 sent to Oxford to read history at Melville College though he soon changed to mathematics. Living in Britain at the high noon of British High Empire, he was greatly impressed by the ever industrious and ever innovative generation of British scientists, explorers, entrepreneurs and inventors, and stayed in London to handle his father's business until 1880, when he returned to the Confederacy for the first time in over 20 years. While in London he married Konstanze Schiffer, the daughter of a Bavarian diplomat. In Britain he had seen firsthand skyfaring vehicles that were heavier than air. Little more than toys for the aristocracy, of course, but he managed to convince his father that it was an enterprise worth investing in. A supporter of the Wildcat wing of the Christocratic Party, upon the election of Lucius Carlisle to the Confederate Presidency, Von Fersen was given his grandfather's old office as minister to the Empire of the British Isles, much to the elderly G. W. Von Fersen's delight. In December 1892, however, he resigned to help his father with the family business. Along with his father, Ivan Von Fersen, Jr. is still remembered for his immense war profiteering in the Sunset War, selling arms to both sides, and for his rapid moves in taking over interests of the fallen British Empire. The Von Fersen Family's exact role in the establishment of the Honduras Authority in particular is still subject to debate and shrouded in mystery. His first wife died in 1899, but it was first in 1911 that he married his second wife, Soong Minxia, a Californian who was the daughter of Chinese immigrants. In 1924, his father died and Ivan, Jr. finally inherited the title of count in the Swedish peerage and the wealth of the growing Fersen Empire, becoming the richest man in the world. Von Fersen continued to donate to candidates and parties throughout the world, and made friends with heads of government on five continents. In this aspect, he is perhaps best remembered for persuading Québécois Prime Minister Abélard Fitzpatrick to solve the political instability that Quebec was suffering from under the Third Republican Constitution by introducing a constitutional monarchy in Quebec after French lines, which the Québécois voted yes to in 1926. Ivan Von Fersen, Jr. died while on a business trip to China in 1938.

So, the line of descent is:

Count Axel Von Fersen The Younger, father of
Count George Washington Von Fersen, father of
Count Ivan Von Fersen, Sr., father of
Count Ivan Von Fersen, Jr., father of
Count Richard Von Fersen, father of
Count Maxwell Von Fersen, father of
Count Nicholas Von Fersen.

Oh, yeah, and I went with the Stars and Bars this time because the flag of the Army of Tennessee is perhaps not the most tasteful thing to use at the moment. Obviously, I intend to use neither the Stars and Bars or the flag of the Army of Tennessee for my Confederacy. I probably won't even call it the Confederacy since it's meant to be a different entity. But, yeah, there you have it.

The expanded and updated infoboxes for all current major surface combatants in the U.S. Coast Guard and submarines. The United States has undergone a massive military buildup in the Outer System, both as a counter to foreign influence and also for prestige purposes. This has included the construction of new Tripoli-class amphibious assault carriers, based off an older U.S. Navy design. While designed with amphibious assault in mind, they have generally been used as light carriers, with the Sea Control loadout of 36 FV-34 Matador jump jets becoming standard. The Department of Civil Defense hopes to be able to field a total of fourteen Carrier Expeditionary Groups across Europa (6), Ganymede (4) and Callisto (4), including escorts. They have begun construction of new Flight IX Arleigh Burkes, 15,000 ton 132 VLS cell monsters that were originally envisioned as 20,000 ton 200+ VLS cruisers, but were cut down due to fiscal and political reasons--Flight IX destroyers are equipped with IBM InteliPro 9500 Smart AI systems similar to the smart AIs used by the Missouri and Iowa. Manila Bay-class seaplane tenders are still important, as they are often used as light helicopter carriers in anti-submarine or anti-piracy roles. The rapid expansion of the Coast Guard's military force has also set off a chain reaction, particularly on Europa, where Whaling Congress nations have embarked on their own carrier-building programs while the Empire of Fuso (nominally-aligned with the United States) has recently laid down a 20,000 ton, 240 VLS cell heavy cruiser.

I posted these a few months back, and I've made a few minor updates to the ships, mostly involving updates to weapon systems and aircraft carried. Surface combatants. Carriers. Submarines.

It's Deutsches Reich, not Reich von Deutschland.

*sigh* In my TL, what I made this based on, it is Reich von Deutschland, as the Empire includes Austria, so in their eyes Germany is fully united, and they are the Empire of Germany, which translates to what I said above.

Okay, that makes no sense whatsoever.

Okay, that makes no sense whatsoever.

Okay, maybe I can explain it a bit better than that. See, at the time, Germany was considered to be OTL German Empire (minus Elsaß-Lotheringen) as well as Austria proper, Bohemia, Moravia, Austrian Silesia, and Slovenia. However, Bismarck wanted a Germany under Prussian dominance, and there was no real way to do that without getting rid of Austria, so they fought in the Seven Weeks' War and Prussia crushed Austria and expelled them from the German Confederation, or what was left of it anyway. The North German states joined around Prussia to create the North German Confederation, and in the Franco-Prussian War, when King Wilhelm of Prussia was named Kaiser, he wasn't Emperor of Germany, as I said above, Germany also included Austria proper, Bohemia, Moravia, the rest of Silesia, and Slovenia. So he wasn't Emperor of all Germany, he was just a German Emperor. And his empire wasn't the Empire of Germany, as not all of Germany was in it, it was just a German Empire.

Does that make it a bit easier to understand? Sorry in advance if it's not:eek:.

Maybe it's a language thing that makes sense when you say it in that language but when you translate it into English it sounds weird? Like, in Swedish, it sounds perfectly okay to say "Kejsaren över Norden", but in English "Emperor over the North" or "Emperor across the North" sounds... weird.

I don't speak German, so I could be mistaken.

I will acknowledge that the justification that the poster gives above me seems a bit inconsistent. Maybe he or she is confusing the title of the sovereign of the nation with the terminology of the name of the nation. The Russian Empire is commonly translated Russisches Kaiserreich and the Empire of Austria is commonly translated Kaisertum Österreich. Again, I don't speak German, but I would guess that the proper term to use for an empire that includes truly all of Germany would be Kaisertum Deutschland.

Yeah, the "von" article isn't used in state names. The Emperor of Austria was the Kaiser von Österreich, but the Empire of Austria was the Kaisertum Österreich, without the article. The Empire of Germany, if that name is the one used, would be the Kaiserreich Deutschland or the Kaisertum Deutschland (the latter only if the Emperor is a Habsburg). Even so, that form sounds terrible in every way, and Deutsches Reich or Deutsches Kaiserreich is much better to my ears.

Well yeah, languages (unfortunately) don't allow for word-for-word translations between one another. "The Kingdom of Sweden" doesn't translate into "Kungariket av Sverige".

Would something like Reich aller Deutschen work? Realm of All Germans? Or is that too communist? Or just not good German.

Wow... that sounds so much better than the name I gave it... thanks :D. I forgot about the name rule, like Germany's current name is Bundesrepublic Deutschland, which means Federal Republic Germany, but we make it Federal Republic (of) Germany.

Being the grandson of Lewis Gordon-Lennox, 8th Duke of Richmond, who emigrated to Scotland in the turbulent political times in England that followed the Sunset War, Joseph Gordon-Lennox is considered a member of the Anglo-Scots community in Scotland. An appreciated scholar, he was for over forty years part of the faculty of the Presbyterian University of Belfast. Gordon-Lennox' work has focused on the period of British High Empire, and he has often been accused of being an apologist for British imperialism, an accusation he during his lifetime often repudiated and denounced as blatantly false. He is perhaps best known for his 1972 work When the Sun Set Over the British Empire, detailing the Britain's role in the Sunset War, and the tumultuous period that immediately followed. The book was heralded as an important contribution to liberal scholarship, and was followed by an SBC miniseries by the same name in 1975. Falling asleep in the office he continued to keep at PUB as an Emeritus after having enjoyed tea time with his colleagues, Gordon-Lennox was found dead on 13 September 2009.

His daughter, Penelope Gordon-Lennox, is a historian of American Colonial and Revolutionary history. His son, Bruce Gordon-Lennox, sits as a member of Pàrlamaid for the Social Democratic Party of Scotland.

Since the 2016 election is firing up, I might as well introduce the people who are running in the alternate one in my Path-verse (which I haven't came up with a decent encompassing title for the whole thing due to making it in three parts...)

Let's start with a Senator with a familiar face. You all know him as Marco Rubio. But in ATL, he's a far different man, with a different name.

Tony Garcia is seen as a moderate Green, in contrast with Governor Darragh's populist rhetoric. But he's still somewhat left-of-center and moderate on social issues, which has became quite a divisive issue in the Green Party and to a lesser extent, the Republicans and Democrats.

Garcia and Darragh knew each other from their days in the State Senate, but while Garcia went for the federal Senate, Darragh went for the Governorship. They still have a good bond and promised to make sure only one Cuban ran in the 2016 primaries against the unpopular President Dughi (Senator Diaz ruled herself out early on) and true to his word, Darragh endorsed Garcia early on as a "people's champion".

Garcia's chances of defeating the President is slightly unlikely, and defeating the Republicans in the general quite unlikely as voter fatigue has affected America due to the three terms of the Green Party (under James Perry then Richard Dughi) and the memories of Calderon's War on Terror has faded away.

Still, even if he fails to defeat the President, he has a good career ahead of him in the Senate and might try again in 4 or 8 years.

(Morales and Torres are completely fictional, BTW.)

Been meaning to post this for a while, here's a post from A Little Unwell, basically a Keys to the White House EG where McKinley isn't assassinated. My character (Thomas Jonaitis) is a member of the Socialist Party. The Socialists (at least in 1902) are mostly doing the same as OTL, but have been able to elect a Mayor of Milwaukee (myself) and a Montana State Legislator (Turquoise Blue) because those spots can be claimed by player characters without the use of any points. However, currently the Socialists have to spend points to get reelected to positions Republicans and Democrats don't have to, at least until they get to become big enough, and they have to spend one extra point, in addition to the amount already 'charged', to get elected to positions ahead of . What you're seeing here is basically me getting a point (well, technically a point and a third, though I'm only spending the full point) that I'm spending to get reelected in 1904. Currently the game's updated to 1904, and the 1904 Presidential election is about to happen as all parties have nominated President and Vice President. The Democratic ticket is Richard Olney/Joseph Sayers, and the Republican ticket is Elihu Root/Fighting Bob (Robert La Follete Sr.). Without further ado, the Milwaukee mayoral election in 1902(1):

Jonaitis1902.png

And for a bit of a write-up about the 1902 mayoral election:

Excerpts from Milwaukee: Past, Present and Future by William Prescott(2)

"In early 1902, things were looking pretty well for Mayor David Stuart Rose and his chances at reelection. He wasn't going to be reelected unopposed like in 1898 and 1900, and he had those Socialists attacking him from the left, and the Republicans from the right. And the Socialists were probably only going to get something like 10% of the vote, and Milwaukee has a strong Democratic political machine and was a strongly Democratic city. And that was good news for Mayor Rose, a Democrat. He also decided to run for Wisconsin Governor in 1902 (3) and challenge Governor Robert LaFollete, although he'd also run for reelection as Mayor. LaFollete was a popular Governor and Wisconsin leaned Republican, and Rose knew that, so he ran for both Governor and Mayor. And he focused all his energy on campaigning for Governor, for he had no worries about being reelected Mayor.

And then Thomas Jonaitis announced his candidacy for Mayor of Milwaukee on the Socialist label. He wasn't a star candidate, and he didn't have political experience, but he had two things going for him. The first was that he spoke German (and Lithuanian), and language a high percentage of Milwaukee residents spoke as their first (and sometimes only) language. Rose, on the other hand (and his Republican opponent), only spoke English(4). The second was that, as a union leader for Milwaukee meatpackers, he was quite popular among meatpackers, a key industry in Milwaukee. And he went around to Germans and Lithuanians, speaking to them in their native tongue. In many cases they didn't speak English (or at least didn't speak it well), and he made them politically active for the first time in their lives. He delivered speeches in both English, German and Lithuanian. He spoke of cleaning up the city and closing up Milwaukee brothels, illegal under city codes but allowed by Rose(5). He promised to create a fire and police commission, to clean up the city. And he spoke these promises in both German, English and Lithuanian. The other candidates only spoke their promises in English (or, in the case of Rose, barely spoke his promises as Milwaukee Mayor, as he didn't campaign for reelection for Mayor as he fas focusing on his run for Governor). He admitted that he didn't speak Polish (a major language in Milwaukee at the time thanks to its large Polish population), but that he spoke three major, common languages among Milwaukeeans (especially German), two of which the other candidates didn't speak. And even though Milwaukee leaned Democratic, Milwaukee voted for a Socialist for Mayor on November 4th, 1902."

And something else:

Text of "A Clean City", a speech by Thomas Jonaitis as he was running for Mayor of Milwaukee (delivered in both German, Lithuanian and English for different crowds):

"My fellow Milwaukeeans, Wisconsinites, Americans, and most of all workers and humans, I'm Thomas Jonaitis, and I'm running for Mayor of Milwaukee. I'm not running for power for power's sake, or for corruption to enrich myself at the expense of the downtrodden. I'm running because when I look at a city, the city I was born in, the city I was raised in, the city I've always lived in, the city I've grown to love, I see innocent men, women and children on the streets. I see dirtiness. I see hardship. I see pollution. I believe that this must change. I know that a mayor cannot create a shining socialist republic as I wish too, but I also know that a Mayor can clean up a city. I swear to you that if I am elected Mayor of Milwaukee, I will close down the dirty brothels and casinos that Mayor Rose, a man of corruption and dishonesty, has allowed. I will create a fire and police commission to ensure that every man, not just rich, not just poor, can be sure that the government will at least try to protect them from a fire, or a gunshot. I promise to you that I will make sure the water you drink is clean. I promise to you that you'll have power in the streets. I promise to you that our city will become clean, a shining model for all cities to follow. Thank you."

1) The Democratic and Republican candidates were the actual Democratic and Republican candidates in the OTL 1902 Milwaukee mayoral election
2) Fictional book and fictional character
3) As in OTL.
4) Rose (and Anson, though I couldn't find any information on then guy other than the fact that he ran for Milwaukee Mayor as a Republican in 1902) might've spoken other languages, but the information I have doesn't mention him speaking any language other than English (it doesn't even mention languages, though) and his distinctly American name suggests he didn't.
5) As in OTL.

I like it. And does the Senator serving with Tony Garcia have any relation with the actress of the same name?
