The Yankee Dominion: A Map and World Building Project

Do we have political parties for Pennsylvania?

No, but there are two things we do have on the province. First, it will be mapped 'later down the road', because I don't want to calc the pop movements down to the town level with all the stuff on my hands. Second, the party system revolves around 'countering' the govt in Philadelphia a la OTL Ontario politics and Ottawa. Sort of like the midterm effect. So the Harrisburg govt will be right leaning, since the Philadelphia govt is left leaning.

a map like this except for the Yankee Dominion would be cool I think.

might i suggest you make the tree not lime colored?
the shade of green I picked contrasts very well with dark blue. it really stands out.
it just doesn’t look... good, vexillologically. No flag OTL uses lime green.
are you sure it's lime green? it looks a bit...darker than that on my computer screen. like, say, generic bright green.

I don't even think the flag of Alaska needs a tree at all. It's already one of the most distinct and best desgined state flags IOTL.

I'm going to go for something a bit different with NZ. British and French lovechild with heavy Maori influence (name, population, official language status etc). South Island is more French Speakers, North is more English speakers. If i where to hazard a guess, population split would be 60-40 in favour of the North Island to South Island.

Republic of Aotearoa (French: République de l'Aotearoa)
Capital: Poneke (OTL Wellington)
Largest City: Tamaki (OTL Auckland)
Population: 10.3 Million
Languages: Maori (official), English (Commonly Used on the North Island), French (Commonly Used on the South Island)
Ethnicity: 43% White (largely of French and English with some Italian, Spanish, Greek and Arab Christians), 30% Indigenous (Mostly Maori, some Polynesian and Melanesian etc), 17% Asian (Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese etc.), 6% Mixed Race (largely Eurasian), 4% Other (Black African, Arab Muslim etc.).
Economy: Approx. 600 Billion USD/58,000 USD Per Capita
Currency: Aotearoan Putea
Economic Sectors: Services, Trade, Agriculture, Tourism, Resources
Religion: 45% Irreligious, 35% Christian (Catholicism, Anglicanism, Ratana), 20% Other (Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Indigenous Religions etc.)

Largest Cities in Aotearoa:
  1. Tamaki (OTL Auckland) - 4 Million
  2. Tautahi (OTL Christchurch) - 3 Million
  3. Poneke (OTL Wellington) - 1 Million
  4. Otepoti (OTL Dunedin) - 500 Thousand
  5. Whangarei - 250 Thousand
Let me know what you think, i can work on the parties as well (also should probably do something about New Wales/New Wessex).

Political Parties of Aotearoa:

Aotearoa uses an MMP system, which means that whilst you usually have two dominant parties (Kaipori and Kotahi), you do get a range of minor parties as well (Note, this is just national politics, Maori politics is much more localised and autonomous from national politics).

National Parties:

Kaipori (Community): Centre-Left (Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Progressivism, Grassroots Democracy)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 108/250

The main centre-left party in Aotearoan politics, they are the current ruling party (in coalition with Huringa). They are the main party of the unions and blue collar workers as well as being the 'people's party' (however, Huringa have stolen some of that claim).

Kotahi (Unity): Centre to Centre-Right (Neo-Liberalism, Social Liberalism, Economic Liberalism, Third Way; Minority: Liberal Conservatism)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 77/250

The current opposition party. They are typically the party of big business and do their best in the big cities such and affluent areas such as northern and eastern Tamaki as well as southern Tautahi. They are liberals at heart, who often make policies for businesses and entrepreneurs and white collar workers.

Minor Parties:

Huringa (Change): Left-Wing (Green Politics, Grassroots Democracy, Direct Democracy, Eco Socialism)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 26/250

One of the biggest risers in Aotearoan politics, Huringa was formed from some of the former Nga Tipu party members and the left of Kaipori.

Nga iwi (Peoples): Right-Wing (Conservatism, Social Conservatism, Economic Nationalism, Right-Wing Populism)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 17/250

The same way Huringa formed, Nga Iwi formed as the right faction of Kotahi left the party (after the moderate faction won the intra party civil war that had waged in the party room and sometimes the parliament for over a decade in the mid 2000's until the mid 2010's).

Pūtake (Source): Centre-Left (Green Politics, Green Liberalism, Direct Democracy)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 12/250

Formed from the husk of the Nga Tipu Party, they are what was once the Right of the party, however a new generation has taken over its leadership, with the party bringing forth a combination of pragmatism and pressure for change and action on climate change.

Regional Parties:

Tonga Nga Hoa (Sud Les Allies):
Big Tent (South Island Interests, Syncretic)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 6/250

Technically not one party, but the alliance of various regional parties from the south island in one voting bloc.

Te Takitahi (Individuals): Centre (North Island Interests, Centrism)
whare o nga mema (House of Members): 4/250

Formed by a group of intellectuals who were fed up of the same politics. They are formed typically by lecturers, scholars, elder leaders etc to come up with the best solutions from an egalitarian sense.

Politics of New Wessex:

The New Wessex System is generally very much heavily balanced in favour of the two major parties (The Conservatives and Liberals) in the form of Two Party Preferred.

Major Parties (30%<):

Conservative Party:
Centre-Right to Right-Wing (Social Conservatism, Economic Conservatism, National Conservatism, New Wessex Nationalism, Right-Wing Populism)
House Of Representatives: 80/150
Senate: 30/75

The Current ruling party in New Wessex. They are the main conservative force in the country, advocating for fiscal responsibility, strong security and military, lower taxes and rights and benefits to businesses.

Liberal Party: Centre to Centre-Left (Social Liberalism, Economic Liberalism, Neo-Liberalism, Trade Unionism)
House Of Representatives: 64/150
Senate: 28/75

The official and main opposition party in New Wessex. They are a Neo-Liberal party that has strong links to the union movement in New Wessex (a movement however, that isn't quiet as strong as it is up north but does remain a force). They often go back and forth with the Conservatives and are always the most represented or second most represented party in parliament.

Minor Parties(5-10%):

Democratic Party: Centre-Left (Social Democracy, Trade Unionism)
House Of Representatives: 2/150
Senate: 8/75

Formed by a breakaway faction that was formerly apart of the Liberal Party's left. They advocate for a more Social Democratic model as opposed to their Liberal Party counterparts, other then that they're relatively similar. More often than not they end up being the junior coalition partners to the Liberal Party anyway. They, along with the Liberals, represent the workers interests.

Country Party: Centre-Right to Right-Wing (Agrarian Politics, Agrarian Interests, Social Conservatism, Economic Nationalism)
House Of Representatives: 3/150
Senate: 3/75

The main party that represents the rural areas as well as the farmers rights and interests. As a result, they are very popular in those regional areas. They do hold a higher amount of seats than any other minor party. They usually form a coalition with the Conservatives as a rule.

Socialist Greens: Left-Wing to Far-Left (Green Politics, Democratic Socialism, Eco Socialism, Anti-Capitalism)
House Of Representatives: 1/150
Senate: 2/75

The Socialist Greens are the main greens party in the country, advocating for strict action on climate change as well as calling societal change overall. Often called out for its extreme rhetoric.

Micro Parties (5%>):

Nationalist Party: Far-Right (New Wessex Nationalism, Ultranationalism, Anti-Immigration, Protectionism, Economic Nationalism, Right-Wing Populism)
House Of Representatives: 0/150
Senate: 1/75

The Nationalist Party is a highly controversial political party within the continent. Disliked by a large amount of people across the political spectrum and the New Wessex society overall. Their parliamentarians and members have been known to make controversial and inflammatory comments. They hold the current record for most conduct rules broken in a sitting parliament ever. Considered so extreme that no other party want anything to do with them. Currently facing a high court challenge for its only senator to be removed because of conduct (with a grassroots campaign to add pressure).

Animal Rights: Centre-Left to Left-Wing (Animal Rights, Animal Protection)
House Of Representatives: 0/150
Senate: 1/75

A micro party that's sole reason is for the welfare of animal rights and they try to pass legislation based upon animal welfare.

Automotive Action: Centre (Automotive Interests, Anti-Toll, Road Investment)
House Of Representatives: 0/150
Senate: 1/75

Another single, interest party. Their sole interest is to get the government (either Liberal or Conservative) to spend more money on road infrastructure, relax the rules of importing cars and help the automotive industry generally. They also advocate for more spending on public transport to ease congestion in major cities.

Justice Party: Centre-Right (Justice Reform)
House Of Representatives: 0/150
Senate: 1/75

A party formed to make the rules around the justice system in the country stricter and harsher towards all criminals.
