List of political parties of Louisiana
Société du Cajuns (SdC): Affiliated with the federal Union Populaire, their voter base and political ideology is nearly identical to their federal counterpart although have in recent years implemented policies that are slightly more right-leaning and corrupt than in previous years. Major legislation has included the creation of language legislatures for French, English and Creole (which in recent years has been a majorly dividing issue within the party), desegregating Louisiana and the natural disaster safety legislation brought into place after Hurricane Katrina. Ideologically the party is socially liberal and in favour of a mixed economy.
Parti Démocratique (PD): Basically, a right-wing version of the Société du Cajuns, they support economically libertarian and social conservative policies it was previously in favour of segregation and nearly a century before that, slavery of the African American population. Their main base of support has always been rural francophones and suburbs of smaller cities such as Lafayette, Alexandria and Lake Charles.
Parti Gauche (PG): Directly decended from policies of the Long family of Louisiana, they are affiliated with no other party due to Louisiana being the only province where the main factions of Labor are split into two major political parties. Overall the party is economically left-wing and supportive of anti-racism and to an extent social liberalism. Their main base of support is from the working class. Along with the Parti Socialiste are in favour of abolishing language legislatures to promote harmony among the cultures of Louisiana.
Parti Socialiste (PS): Louisiana's only social democratic party, traditionally they are a coalition of left-leaning african americans and New Orleans middle class socialists. They have no affiliate - previously they were affililated with Labor although once the Gauche Party had split the federal Labor party decided to back away and Louisiana is now the only province in the Commonwealth where the Labor party's main factions are split into separate parties. Much like the Parti Gauche are in favour of abolishing language legislatures to promote harmony.
Democratic Centre Party (PCD): A christian democratic and economically liberal party with anglophone roots, they have been affiliated with the Federalist party for many-a-year and have never really made major breakthoughs due to their appeal solely on middle and upper class anglophones. They have been second largest advocate of keeping the language legislatures, along with the Parti Démocratique.
Parti Écologique (PE): Basically a more eco-friendly based version of the Socialist Party, they first gained a seat in the 2012 elections and have remained steady since their first gain. With Louisiana being faced with major natural disasters every year (and getting worse and worse) the party may be on the verge of a breakthrough.
The current composition of Louisiana's government is usually a complicated coalition of minor parties, currently the Société du Cajuns operates on minority government with confidence and supply with the Socialist and Democratic Centre parties.
I'm quite proud of this one, if anyone has any suggestions, please say. A redone Massachussets and Ontario political systems will come out today.
