Times of Trouble

A timeline by maverick.

The link to it is here., but due to maverick's infamous accidental deletions of several of his timelines, it is now sadly lost. An archived version from December 2010 is here.

A nightmare scenario based on a Dharmic inspiration, life in a wheel of constant evolution (birth, growth, death and reincarnation), the timeline evolves into the worse possibly direction and matters only become worse before improving over a period of 20 years, from 1957 to 1978.

PoD:

  • The Little Rock Crisis of 1957 turns into a bloodbath. When President Eisenhower sends paratroopers and federalizes the Arkansas National Guard in an effort to desegregate a southern public school, an accidental shooting turns a day in the park into a bloodbath and the racial tensions in the united states into a nightmare.

EVENTS:

  • 1961: the Algerian crisis and the Algiers coup lead to a Rhodesian like autonomous government in Algeria and a bloodier end to the Algerian war.
  • 1963-1975 American troubles: economic crisis, racial tensions that led to riots, irregular warfare and the rise of racial violence throughout the big cities and the south thanks to the actions of the Police, the national Guard, US Marshalls and the insurgents (Black Panther Party, KKK, etc)
  • Rise of paramilitary and terrorist groups (Black Panther Party, KKK, Black Liberation army, Weather Underground, the American Indian Movement, White Citizen's council, etc for USA; Internationale Zellen and Red Army Faction for Germany; IRA, PIRA and IRAM for Britain)
  • John Kennedy survives, but his government becomes authoritarian due to the spread of violence, so the FBI and the Security Apparatus grows in power and malevolence
  • JFK dies in 1966, being replaced by George Smathers
  • Worse Profumo affair in Britain; RAB Butler becomes PM, only to be defeated by the surviving Hugh Gaitskell in '64
  • Worse and early Irish troubles; widespread violence
  • Eleven days war between Israel and the Arabs
  • Prime Minister Enoch Powell, draconian solutions to the Irish troubles, British isolationism, intervention in Grenada in 1976
  • More violent conflict in the recognized Rhodesia
  • 1969: President Barry Goldwater: libertarianism, riots and involvement in Cuba, Colombia and Cambodia
  • Sino-Soviet war in 1968-1973, no nukes used, but chemical weapons
  • President George Wallace: 1973-1978; violation of Civil rights, draconian security measures, aggressive policies, riots and near impeachment
  • Chancellor Franz Josef Strauss; deeper conflicts in Italy and Germany with the communist terrorists…
  • 1964: Earlier coup in Argentina
  • Surviving Francoist Regime, until 1981
