NASA Astronaut Group 8 "The Geologists"-1969
n 1969 as NASA was preparing for the Apollo lunar LESA missions. NASA had a lack of Astronaut scientist with a concentration in Earth Science's. NASA put out a request for more applications and picked a new group of astronauts. This was the first group of scientists that no pilot training was planned for since they would be flying as mission specialists in a non-flight role.
