Gus Grissom (1926- ) was a former Astronaut, US Air Force Test Pilot, and a Senator from Indiana. Grissom is best known for being the first man to walk on the surface of the moon in 1966. After retiring from NASA in 1976, Grissom entered politics being elected to the US Senate representing his homestate of Indiana. He was later joined by fellow astronaut, John Glenn in the Senate. After a long career in the US Senate, Grissom retired in 1989 and currently resides in Orlando, Florida.
