France (A Darker World War II)

The Republic of France has emerged from the Second World War as the leader of mainland Europe, and a major player on the world scene. The early years following the war were particularly difficult for France, as it lost much of its Empire. Syria and Lebanon declared independence in 1948, with long and bloody wars being fought to retain Algeria and Indochina, the former was granted independence in 1959, the latter in 1964.
