Florida Class Battleships

The Florida-class battleships of the United States Navy were its first battleships to have steam turbine propulsion. They were, in general, similar to the preceding Delaware-class design, but were slightly larger, and as already stated, were powered by steam turbines. The two ships of this class were launched in 1910 and 1909 and were the USS Florida and the USS Utah.

These ships were approximately 2000 pounds larger than the previous class, but had the same armament (ten 12-inch guns in five turrets, secondary battery of 5-inch guns). They were marked for upgrades but with the start of the Global War the expected upgrades never happen. They served in escort duty on the Atlantic Ocean during the war and were demobilized in 1943.
