The Progressive Republicans were a faction of the Republican Party in the XXth_Cetury.

The movement began when some Equality Republicans refused to join the new Progressive_Party. President Richard_Ballinger gained the full support of the faction. Ballinger's popularity with the party prevented many Progressive Republicans from joining the Progressive Party.

During the presidency of Al_Smith, the Equality Republicans, who were joined by many former members of the Republican Party, attempted to ally themselves with Smith. The Progressive Republicans tended to emphasize welfare programs.

One of the greatest achievements of the faction was the Boulder_Dam, championed by future president Equality Republican Phil_Swing.

Though originally hostile to President Theodore_Roosevelt_Jr., the Equality Republicans eventually came to appreciate his large government policies, and after the faction fell apart, many of them became Independant_Republicans.

The faction was centered around the Equality_League.
