True North

True North is the story of what happens after the War of 1812 results in the United States losing the whole North to a triumphant British Empire. Butterflies fly from there, resulting in a very different world.

North America

Dominion of Canada

The strongest country in North America, it is a stable parliamentary democracy, spanning OTL Canada and the whole of northern OTL USA. Before it became a dominion, it fought a war with its southern neighbour and won, taking Dakota and Montana from the CSA. Currently led by Prime Minister Joe Biden, of the Liberal Democrats . The upcoming 2014 federal election will see him aim for a majority. Could be said to be the heir to the USA's legacy as it is a strong democracy, albeit one with the British monarch as theirs and with a parliamentary structure.

Political Parties in Canada.

Liberal Democrats: A party advocating social liberalism and progressive ideals, born out of the merger of the Liberal Party and the social democratic New Democratic Party in 2005. Currently leading a minority government with Joe Biden as Prime Minister.

National Conservatives: A party advocating fiscal conservatism (with socons present), born out of the merger of the Conservatives and Nationals, with Libertarians merging in 1998. Currently leading Opposition and led by Tim Pawlenty, who is Leader of the Official Opposition.

Progressive Labour: A party advocating leftist ideas, with socialism being a major force. Born out of the merger of the Progressive and Labour parties with George McGovern defecting from the NDP to become their leader. Third-biggest party and now led by Nathan Cullen.

Greens: A party advocating environmentalism and sustainable development. Ralph Nader was their first leader, and successfully got them into Parliament. Now led by Elizabeth May, and it is more successful than either the OTL Canadian or USAmerican Greens.

Bloc Québécois: A party advocating Quebecois separatism and provincialism. Made a splash in the 1991 election and has remained in Parliament since. Currently led by Pauline Marois, it is in somewhat better health than OTL Bloc is.

Christian Heritage: A party advocating social conservatism and “keeping” Canada a Christian country (they don't say which type of Christianity). Led by Sarah Palin, it is also the most nationalist party, with some even advocating republicanism (they're a minority)

Republicans: A party advocating Canadian republicanism. Apart from that it is a very broad-tent party, including communists like Hardial Bairns and conservative-populists like Michelle Bachmann, its current leader. Lost their last seat in 2003.

Confederate States

Canada's southern neighbour. Like Canada, it is a democracy, but with a far more troubled history that makes it look somewhat more like a banana republic at times and with racial divides due to a long history of slavery up to the 1880s. The direct successor to the United States, born out of a new Constitutional Convention held by President Andrew Jackson. Could be said to be the heir to the USA's legacy, being mostly faithful to the government structure the Founding Fathers created. The CSA is currently led by President Bob McDonnell, a Democrat.

Political Parties in the Confederate States

Democrats: Once called the Conservative Democrats, it was born out of the split of the old hegemonic Democratic Party between liberals and conservatives. Currently has the Presidency with Bob McDonnell having it, and half of the state governors.

Liberal Republicans

Reformists

Californian Republic

State of Deseret

Republic of Mexico

A nation far stronger and stable than its OTL equivalent ever was, it includes OTL Mexico, all of Central America including Panama and parts of OTL Texas. Currently dominated by two parties, the Liberal and Labor parties, but with an protest populist party being the eternal thorn in both main parties's sides. Has laws similar to OTL USA regarding political parties.

Political Parties in the Republic of Mexico

Liberals: Formerly the centre-left party in opposition to the Conservative Party, it shifted rightwards due to the rise of Labor as a major force. Currently has a narrow plurality in the House of Assembly.

Labor: A party of organised labour, it considers itself an social democratic party. Currently has the presidency due to Andrés Manuel López Obrador winning the presidential election of 2010.

Freedom: A populist party that receives protest votes, it attacks both main parties of ignoring the people. Socially conservative, but economically populist, it nevertheless receives disaffected centrist liberal votes.

South America

Empire of Brazil

Europe

United Kingdom

Not much detail about this have been discovered. All that is known is that it is quite different to OTL and its friendship with France is older than OTL, reaching as far back as the 1860s, if not further. Its current Prime Minister is Yvette Cooper, a Social Democrat.

Political Parties in the United Kingdom

Social Democrats:

National Liberals:

Libertarians:

Citizens' Movement:

Greens:

Asia

China

An once glorious Empire that turned to darkness and the rise of the nationalistic Manifest Party. Fell into chaos after the nuking of Beijing and the end of the most devastating war known to mankind. Hatred for the “God Worshippers”, a minority religion, led to the Great Cleansing.

Reformist/Mandatist: The liberal reformists who spearheaded the industralisation of China along with sympathetic Emperors. Never managed to get constitutional democracy through due to strong conservative opposition.

Conservative: Sprang up to oppose the Reformists/Mandatists, this faction advocated traditionalism and opposed industralisation until the 20s so Emperors tended to shy away from this faction when considering Chancellors.

Socialist Masses: A socialist party that got power thanks to the Xuantong Emperor trusting his best chancellor's advice. Rapidly lost favour with the Emperor with their radical economic policies which didn't work at first (later research reveal slight improvement in 1930)

Manifest: A ultranationalist and fascist party led by Paul Soong that got power thanks to the Emperor wishing for a strong government. Arguably is the party that destroyed old China by failing to win the biggest war the country ever fought.
