City (since 1155) and county (since 1373). One of England's biggest 3 cities until the Industrial Revolution and a major port even after that.

Home to Isambard Kingdom Brunel, builder of the biggest and best ships, bridges, railway tunnels, railway stations &c yet known. Also home to the first Methodist Chapel, the constituency represented by Edmund Burke and the port city from which John Cabot sailed to reach Newfoundland and Canada in 1497.
