I've linked to my After 1900 essay about JFK's policy in Vietnam; overall, the Kennedy escalation question should not be answered with either a 'yes' or 'no', but as I argue in my piece, the argument that he was a de-escalationist or withdrawalist in that war is just too intellectually controversial to promote over the other, more mainstream conclusions to be had from studying the rigorously detailed history of his policy making. This FAQ point must lean towards the preponderance of facts here.
