WI: US bought Micronesia after the Spanish American war in 1898

What if the US bought Micronesia from Spain in 1898? If these islands are neither German nor Japanese, how would this affect history afterwards, espacially during WWII?

Would it just be given to the Hawaiian Republic, since by that time annexation was a given?
