WI: Renewed Chinese Civil War lasts into the 1950s?

What would be the effects of a KMT that maintains a significant presence on the Chinese Mainland into the 1950s?

The Mainland still needs to be contested so no, "KMT wins the Civil War early".

Basically the Nationalist Army would have to have been able to respond to the set backs far better than in out time line and Chaing willing to accept reforms to the army.. By not trying to hold everything the Nationalist forces would have been able to respond much better perhaps resulting in a stalemate. It would have also helped if the US didn't keep trying to force a settlement with Mao and with held aid from the Nationalist. That only benefitted the Reds.
