WI - Principality of Monaco evolves into a small Kingdom

How would history be affected if Monaco grew from a Principality into a small Kingdom up to the ATL present and managed to acquire territory roughly equivalent to the OTL French departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes and Var?

Monaco mostly survived as because of its unsignificance, and because it was under Genoese suzerainty, that prevented it to be swalloed up as other tiny principalities.

Going for more would be the equivalent to painting yourself as a target : too important to be ignored, too weak to realistically resist; without Genoa doing anything to save them from their idiocy, as having a really small lordship attacking whoever held Provence at this time (Angevins and Capetians, historically) a new and weird form of suicide.

By the time Monaco sovereignty get acknowledge, meaning the XVIIth century, it was far to late to even hope grab 1/10 of the OP objectives.

The best you can is get them to keep Menton and perhaps Roquerbune, which would make Monaco a huge principality compared to its current size. That said, a Monaco-wank is something I'd pay to read, provided it uses the monks legend, the Casino, the rally and the cliffhanger of whether the hair is a boy or the state stops existing. :D

Just FYI, Roquebrune is closer to Monaco than Menton, so it'd be the more likely one.

But yes, I'd love to see a Monaco-wank TL which is still within the realm of feasibility...

Bit of a cheat, but how about this?

1918 - Mindaugas II of Lithuania somehow gets accepted as King. Perhaps not entirely ASB, but still.
c. 1920 - Charlotte Louvet dies tragically young.
1947-ish - Louis II dies, his heir is the King of Lithuania of the time. Personal unions ftw!

Of course, unless the entire House of Urach died in WWII, Monaco would probably go to a younger scion. Or an even more distant cousin. Or France would get pissed off and just revoke Monaoco's sovereignty in accordance with the 1911 Treaty. Or...

France would certainly oppose a German prince being Prince of Monaco.

It's because William of Urach was going to inherit it, that France heavily pressured Albert to either acknowledge his bastard, or to make Monaco a non-monarchical state at his death.
