WI Oswald kills Johnson, not JFK

How doesn't really matter. JFK doesn't go to Dallas, but VP Johnson goes for some reason, in '63 or '64, and gets plucked by Lee Harvey Oswald. Johnson was from Texas after all, so it isn't a stretch. JFK is alive by the end of his mandate, but his VP has been murdered by a communist. What's next for '60s America?

(Yes. Assume Oswald did it all alone. Don't say "the people really behind JFK's assassination do it on schedule.")

There's going to be another Red Scare almost definitely. They'll be less mourning, because Johnson's just VP and VPs have died in office a couple of times.

Wasn't LBJ on the other side of town when JFK got whacked? Oswald would have needed a hell of a lot of luck to get to Johnson.

EDIT: Just did a Google search. Turns out LBJ's car was three spots behind Kennedy's in the motorcade. So Oswald might not have needed quite so much luck, just a better rifle.

The Twenty-fifth Amendment had not been adopted until February 10, 1967, so John F. Kennedy spends the last of his 14-month first term, with out a vice president.

In 1964 the election John F. Kennedy is seeking his second term, with Governor of California, Edmund "Pat" Brown being selected as his vice president.
Going up against, Arizona Senator, Barry Goldwater and William E. Miller.

In 1968, Nixon does not want to be defeated again by Vice President,Pat Brown, who instead has the pleasure of going against Governor Nelson Rockefeller of New York.

I think that Kennedy would choose a man like North Carolina Governor Terry Sanford. He was already considering using him to replace Johnson OTL.
