WI: Minecraft ended development in 2011?

One of Minecraft's splash texts reads "It's finished!", but of course, we know that the game is far from finished, with new updates released every year to add more content to the game, whether new mobs, blocks or items.

So what if, in an alternate timeline, that splash was correct?

Let's say in this alternate timeline Mojang decides Minecraft is truly 100% done after its 2011 release and decides to shift their focus and resources onto another project. So OTL's release 1.0 is the final version of Minecraft ITTL, and everything past OTL release 1.0 is butterflied away.

How much different would the game and its impact be compared to OTL?

Well for one, no Microsoft acquisition, probably no Notch selling out, i still bet its one of the biggest games ever - the game is finished still leaves room for ports, so it gets ported everywhere as usual.

With minecraft not constantly updating, mods and competitor games have much more room to play

But also, Notch can focus on making new games. It didn't go nearly as well as Minecraft, but imo he just needed a few dozen more games to accumulate more experience, and small games still make money
