WI Jodorowsky shoots Dune around 1980

imagine the effects of such a movie on hollywood film industry
many of the big names that would later influence or be directly involved in alien, star wars and the 1984 dune, were already there
giger, obannon, moebius, both david linch and ridley scot are said to have been heavily influenced by its script and artwork, some of wich enetered david linches dune, and influenced later work on star wars

apparently pink floyd was suposed to make most of the soundtrack, and the likes of jager and dali were in the cast

could jean giraud moebius get involved more in hollywood?

would jodorowskys vision of dune be too incoherent or hermetic, and the movie prowed a faliure, how would this influence later science fiction

what would the influence be if the movie was a sucess

Dali was cast to be the emperor. He wanted a $500.000 bill, and insisted that his character would have a huge ass throne with dolphin-shaped protrusions where he would regularly poop as the film advanced. I am not making this up.

Whether that would be disgusting or awesome, I'll let each one decide. :D

I would imagine that it would be a beautiful expense failure, something that would be imitated by dozens of movies afterward and develop a considerable cult following but be panned by critics and a flop at the box office.

in fact is was only reason, he take the roll offert by Jodorowskys

Dan o'bannon had to made SFX for DUNE
but wat was left over of this for him, was a Nightmare called ALIEN

After Jodorowskys was stabt in back by his investors
Ridley Scott was offert to make the Movie
but he refuse, he knew it was almost impossble to make this movie
(in 1963 he refuse to design something called a "Dalek" for Serie Dr. Who)

david linch had his chance and made this "SM" version of Dune :rolleyes:

and Jodorowsky ?
he transform the Scrip of DUNE into story of John Difool and The INCAL
and made with Moebius, juan Gimenez, Zoran Janjetov and Ladrönn

If this movie had been made, it would have had some seriously creepy sexual overtones and imagery, as HR Giger was hired to produce conceptual art for the production. You may remember that Giger also did conceptual work for Ridley Scott's Alien.

if such a movie would be sucesfull it could revolutionise sf just as alien and dune did
but would gigers other work have so much of a punch as the alien did?

and if the movie failed financially would this pull hollywood sf back into b movies?

is there aniplace one can see the artwork? anyone know a site?

If made in 1980 it might have more of a built in audience from the original fans of Dune the Book.

OTOH I think it would have failed too. Dune, the original, wasn't this mystical bullshit story. It was about ecology and politics and very hard SF oriented, with all the mysticism just an overlay on the science. Herbert, etal made it the major thing in the later books because everybody thought the mysticism was what people wanted, since LOtR was so popular then too. Actually, Dune the book was a refuge from all the crap fantasy that was coming up at the time. (the late 60's that is)

was this the first involvment of giger on mainstream film(if you can call jodorowsky mainstream)? couse if this failed, possibly he is not taken for alien

and alien without giger is not alien its just some thing eating astronauts/comertial pilots

but hey who knows might still of worked
