What if the former Boer guerrilla commander turned South African dominion politician Jacobus Herculaas de la Rey had not been accidentally murdered by police gunfire while caught in the midst of a criminal pursuit shootout in September 1914?
How would Jacobus react to the coming events of South African involvement in WWI, and the Maritz Rebellion? If he decides to throw his lot with the rebels, could the rebellion end up becoming much more of a thorn on the British Empire's side, rather than being solved early?

Bump.
If the Maritz Rebellion still fails while de la Rey is one of its leaders, what sort of treatment would he get as a rebel? If he's executed for treason, i could see the Afrikaners politically galvanizing against English-speaking South Africans, further weakening the prospects of cultural integration parties like the UP in the future.
