Unlike the French Communists, the British Communists anti-colonial and internationlist credentials were very strong from the beginning, and these were only ever compromised at the very height of war-time unity. They will not retain the Empire, beyond perhaps a few island territories like the Falklands and such.
The Soviet Union was rife with anti imperialist rhetoric. It didnt stop them co opting an extant empire, the one they took over, for their own ends. No one expects intellectual consistency or logic from communists.
My guess is that the declare anti colonialist sentiments of British socialist / Communists
verse the Zardust's "
exceptions always exist- well, for us" concept are going to collide in ...... Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland has imagery that could move the Socialist / Communist hearts of the British government to tears- A contrived territorial possession that represents the vestiges of an imperial era best forgotten. An insurgency of national liberation that has always had a leftwing spin. That leftist spin gets even more defined as one moves beyond the IRA to the fringe groups.
Yet.... Northern Ireland also has imagery that could dry those tears and harden their hearts towards one of Zardust's "exceptions". Its been part of the Empire ( now presented as a
"Union of Soviets" ) for a very long time. A majority, though not an overwhelming majority, of locals don't want to be "liberated" (but also have an unsettling right wing, reactionary spin). And..... the UK, and now
Union Of Soviets, well, likes possessing Northern Ireland.
However the British communists approach Northern Ireland, its going to get "complex", real complex. I mean, is the IRA a truly authentic left wing spun liberation movement with a just cause? Or...... are they being manipulated by capitalists in Boston to do the bidding of the meddling United States?
