What if Nixon hadn't floated the dollar, how would this have impacted the economy? Do you think the US economy would have endured a much longer stagflation?
A lot depends on what measures the US adopts instead of floating the dollar; no president could afford to simply ignore stagflation, so I think that even if Nixon chose to maintain the Bretton Woods system there would be major reforms.
