What if Philip V made an alliance with the Roman Republic?

Hello world...

In OTL, Philip V of Macedon made an alliance with Carthage during the Second Punic War. This alliance only stayed on paper but, nevertheless, the Romans sent forces across the Adriatic to keep Philip busy while they were fighting Hannibal. This was the beginning a series of wars, which culminated in the defeat and partition of the kingdom of Macedon.

What if Philip had foreseen the Roman victory over Carthage and made an alliance with them instead?

In OTL, Romans started meddling in Greek affairs to fight Macedon ambitions. Could an allied Phillip have subjugated southern Greece if he was undisturbed?

Also, would Rome still try to expand into eastern Mediterranean in this timeline?

Gone Fishin'
What kind of strings might the Romans have insisted on in any alliance?
Would Phil have faced domestic opposition to a pro-Roman alignment, leading to a civil war between pro and anti Roman claimants that Rome now has a stake in and is thus motivated to intervene in?

Do any of Phil’s enemies in Greece thwart his strategy for local expansion by making *their own* alliances with Rome?

If all these answers to these questions go the correct way:

Strings to the alliance? Minimal

Domestic opposition in Macedonia to the alliance and domestic instability? Nothing of note

Intentional Roman meddling to play off Macedonia, Greek states and Diadochi against each other? Latins ain't got time for that - they got Punics and Gauls and Illyrian and Teutones to worry about

.......then it can all add up to Rome staying focused on the western Mediterranean/Western Europe and not expanding into the Eastern Mediterranean, at least for a few centuries.

@raharris1973 apologies, I didn't notice your original reply..

Well, if the Roman-Macedonian alliance happens, I see Macedon recreating the League of Corinth eventually. Rome may not decisively intervene, even for a minor ally in southern Greece. Unless it feels threatened from a resurgent Macedon that is..

Rome could finish off Carthage as in OTL and go for Gaul earlier..
