What if James K Polk served 2nd term?

I'm unsure if this was covered before, but as covered by the title, what would a 2nd term of President Polk look like? He is certainly one of the more underrated Presidents, most noted of course for overseeing the territorial expansion of the US in Texas and California, not to mention a successful negotiation with GB over Oregon territory. He also signed a good trade deal which reduced tariffs with Great Britain.

OTL, Polk only served a single term and soon died of cholera after he left office, but what if he decided that he hated Zachary Taylor so much that he decided for the good of the country he would run for a second term, breaking his previous campaign promise to serve only 1 term?

If Polk served a second term, would he be able to possibly prevent the further sectionalization over slavery and prevent the US Civil War? What else could he accomplish?

The first P.o.D will have to be that during his 1844 campaign, he doesn't pledge to serve only one term.

His cabinet members are all healthy so can serve another term.

Who does the Democrats choose as VP in 1848, under him?
Senator John Fairfield of Maine
Senator Lewis Cass of Michigan
Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois
Senator Daniel S. Dickinson of New York
Representative Henry C. Murphy of New York
Former Senator Franklin Pierce of New Hampshire
Former Representative John B. Weller of California

I suspect that if Polk served a second term, he might have actually inflamed political opinions. Supposedly, despite being a slave owner, Polk opposed both sides to some degree which might have stoked the anger of both the slaveocrats and abolitionists.
